Mitsubshi big screen VS-5041

The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Have a Mitsubishi Big Screen,

Hi dejjjavuu,

You have 50% chance that it is a bulb problem but you have a ballast board that supply the bulb also. The problem is, this board needs to check with an experienced technician for fault. But for me I've suspected also the bulb most especially if the unit is more than a year old, you can't test this bulb unless swap a new working bulb in the ballas board that's why you need to call an expert. However if you have a spare bulb you can swap it and try.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have an old mitsubishi

You either have a cold solder connection on the vertical output IC401 or a failure of the Vertical output IC altogether. The part number should be labeled clearly on the front of the chip and is likely LA7836 or LA7837. It's difficult to reference parts on a set this old. Remove the chassis and visibly inspect the solder connections. If they look good, replace the chip. Good luck

THE COLOR ON THE SCREEN IS TO DARK

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

I have a mitsubishi VS-5043....It

Hello,

Yes, it can be repaired. There is so much heat inside the unit that is why it shuts off. When the heat gets high, then a component gets melted inside the unit.

The component that is most likely to get bad is a capacitor. Once a capacitor gets bad or melted, it begins to malfunction, like tripping off frequently, and other kinds of problem. Run a check on the power board and the main board for any bad capacitor and replace it with a new one.

Take care and good luck

The screen stays off when

You may have one of two problems. Let's go with my first solution. I would say the signal board is on the fritz. This is the board with the RF connections and RCA jacks. Another clue is you may occasionally receive a picture on the TV.You have a convergence IC that is in need of resoldering or replaced. The IC or ICs will have the STK 392-XXXX series. You will of course check the low ohm (under 10 ohms) 2 watt resistors, near the ICs, check and replace as needed. I would also check the capacitors near the ICs as well. The second problem may be in the board next to the signal board. This is the power supply. There is a vertical IC that has been unseated. By this, I mean the pins have been separated from the board itself. These should be resoldered, and any capacitors next to this IC checked and replaced as needed. Hope this will clue you in a repair. If you cannot do this yourself, ask a TV tech to do so. Show the tech this info. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

Power light comes on but screen stays black.

Its probablly your power supply, try unplugging it for a couple minutes and then plug it back up. If that doesn't work there are a couple other things you can try but they're all internal... The parts to fix projection tvs now are unrealistic to repair the tv, for the price you can buy a new flat sceen for about the same amount

TV shuts off immidiatly when

I had a Sony that did the same thing. It ended up being a blown fuse on the board. Check to see if any of the fuses are blown. They're cheap and easy to replace usually. Make sure you use the same amperage fuse when replacing.

I think I have a bad vertical output IC (U401?)

u401 IS THE LOCATION OF THE IC which is mounted on a small metal heat sink---chip should have 7-13 pins depending on one used.

It will usually be marked top and bottom on circuit board and is usually to the right of the middle of all the boards.

I would suggest based on the model number that if you locate it look closely at the solder connections that connect it to the board; a lot of these sets develop broken connections there from the heat the chip produces--you may only have to resolder the chip to fix the problem.

Let me know if you need help---if this has been helpful rate this solution as "very helpful" as I do this here for free.

I have a 60" mitsubishi

Your projection tv uses 3 small CRT tubes - tubes like those from old tv's but smaller and brighter. 6 years is about the average life of these tubes - when they age their functioning adjustment point shifts and things that shouldn't be visible start to appear on the screen and that perturbs the functioning of other elements of the tv
In your case the return beam has become visible and it makes the synchronisation of the image iffy - the result is disturbances in the signal that comes to the tubes = the bands you are seeing.
The only thing that can be done to fix that is to replace the tubes one more time. Unfortunately it will cost you over $600 and they will be extremely hard to find - they went out of production a long time ago.
In my opinion you should just accept that your tv has had an exceptionally long life that is coming to an end and start saving for a new one.

I am attempting to repair a convergence issue on a

FBT means flyback transformer also called high voltage transformer. This is the most dangerous part to deal with and you have to be extremely careful. You see the suction cups at the end of the thick wires? You have to squeeze and pull them to disconnect the wires.
I did not understand your second question though. Can you get me an image(Upload a highres pic to imageshack.us and get me the link) so that I can help you remove it?

Mitsubishi VS5043 convergence will not align

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.png http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

You will be watching the tv and the picture will go out

Howdy,

Cause 1
1. REPLACE L5A00,IF COIL IS WRAPPED IN BLACK TAPE,WITH PT#351P138020, (THE NEW COIL SHOULD BE WRAPPED WITH YELLOW TAPE).THIS IS LOCATED ON THE MAIN-PCB.

2. CHECK FOR LEAKEY D5A21, PART # 264P045040, IN THE BEAM PROTECTION CIRCUIT ON THE MAIN PCB

3. CHECK PIN 6 OFF IC5A01 FOR 22.2 VOLTS DC IF LOW CHECK D5A09, PART # 264P244030 ON THE MAIN PCB.
4.
More than likely your TV has "COOLANT" (ethylene glycol) on the circuit boards. This fluid comes from the CRT's (picture tube) this fluid is used to keep the CRT's cool, such the name. This fluid from the CRT's leak when TV is on for long periods of time, the chamber expands and the seals leak.

One can remove this fluid by using "acetone" & small brush. The fluid is hard to see, use bright light, they spots can be smaller then a DIME. Also, the fluid can corrode the parts and traces on the boards. To protect the TV in future place heavy plastic or thick cardboard over affective area, make sure TV has proper air flow around TV.

If after the fluid has been removed and TV still does not work, call an Authorized Service Center to come out and repair TV after giving you an Written Estimate. The boards are not available.

Always try resetting the TV by unplugging it for one minute then plug back into A/C outlet and ALWAYS UNPLUG TV BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIR ON THE TV.

Good Luck, Big IRISH.
