I bought this tv 6 years ago, it was manufactured

It sounds like the fluid in the projectors has possibly degraded. Sometimes there are settings you can use to adjust your T.V. If that doen's work, then it costs about $700 or so to replace the fluid in the projection tubes.

The TV has a convergence problem; the IC’s for that circuit will need to be replaced. The cost for this repair runs around $450.00 or more. The part location : IC8C01&02; part number (gen) STK392-110. The parts are on center PC board. and the parts are located on the large silver heat sink.

I push the menu input for codes and 1-2 comes up

It is NO ERROR DETECTED--means whatever is wrong it is not triggering the error buffer.

You may need to have someone look at the set to find what the problem is.

Let me know if you have questions.

If this helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for FREE.

Green out-lines on tv images

Iff it's more or less like a green shadow to the picture, then you have a convergence IC issue. This is 99% of the shadow problems.

Look in the back of the set for a 40-60 pin IC chip about this big
I-------------------------------------------------------I

There will be two of them with a part number on the front of them. You should replace BOTH at the same time otherwise you may have to shortly replace it again. Replace both, save yourself time and money.

If you think you can do this yourself then you will need a soldering iron and desoldering braid.

I have a wt-42311 that turns on then immediatly turns off

2, then 2 is short protection. What it usually means in this model is one of the two STK-392-110 convergence chips has shorted and taken one of the 5 amp pico fuses out that protects the chips.

The set will detect no voltage to Convergence circuit and shut down instantly----It could be a short elsewhere but 95% of the time it is one of the convergence chips.

This model uses a light box---with the back removed and several screws removed and one large square plug on the left side(as you look from the back) unplugged-----everything comes out in one piece--the sides are plastic and actually have handholds to pull the box out once it is unbolted.

The question is can you do this? You will need to get the box out and check the pico fuses near the chips--they do not look like regular fuses but can be tested like testing any other fuse---If one or both are blown--you need to replace them and BOTH chips---you can get replacement chips for about 12 dollars for a pair on Ebay---I buy mine there.

Each chip has 18 pins and is black in color (about 2 1/2 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches tall with the STK number printed on them in White) and in this set they are located on metal heat sinks near the very front of the Chassis.

Let me know if you have questions or need help--IF YOU CANNOT DO THIS REPAIR LET ME Know and I will give you advice.

I am here to help people.

It wouldn't turn on until you unplugged it and

It is highly likely that the main power supply has failed; your description points to this.
The main supply is normally on separate board, recognizable by the larger components on it and it will be related to the incoming AC line. Look for cylindrical parts mounted 90 degrees to the board as well as larger (inches) blocks, these are chokes and transformers. The supply is typically connected with plugs and jacks and not tough to remove.
If you can locate the board, look for an assembly number and contact the mfr. with that and your model/serial number and inquire about replacement or repair cost.
If you must buy a new one, look for smaller companies that offer repairs on supplies since it makes sense to have a sapre around for the next time.

MODEL WT-42311 WAS 0N A SURGE PROTECTOR POWER

The surge protection built into the typical power strip is primitive and the component(s) that provide protection by conducting (shorting) between the hot and neutral degrade with repeated activation. They are worth much when new and after having switched a few times, the voltage breakdown point moves uprange and they become less effective.
Most more expensive electronic systems have better internal protection than that afforded by the majority of the power strips and there might be an internal fuse that blew that can be replaced. I'm afraid however that the main power supply has taken the hit.
The supply is normally built on a separate boardsince these are often out-sourced by set manufacturers.

Unplug your set overnight to allow potentiallyhazardous voltages to discharge, remove the lower back panel of the set so you cansee the guts.
Look for a smaller board with larger parts onit; some cylindrical (capacitors), others block-like and relatively large(chokes and transformers).
You should also see a relationship between theboard and the incoming AC.
Check the board for a label or if not present, astamped-on number.
Call the manufacturer's service center with yourTV model number and the number found on that board and inquire aboutrepair/replacement costs; if both are offered, they won't be that muchdifferent.
If you must buy a new board, don't dispose ofthe failed one as there are smaller companies that can repair it for less thanthe mfr. and then keep it as a spare as this problem will likely arise again.

If you reside in an area of frequent electrical storms, I highly recommend you install or have installed a 'whole house' surge protector. These are either installed in an existing main breaker box or in an auxillary box next to the breaker.
The device and installation labor fall between $150 - $300 US and have an included insurance policy that covers losses of 10 or 25 thousand dollars.
This Google link will bring a large number of links to retailers of these:

THE PICTURE HOUR GLASSES IN SHAPE

Your symptom sounds like a damaged component in the pincushion circuit.

If your colors line up in the middle of the set and at the top but the picture is concave then you may have a faulty component in the pincushion circuit. When this circuit fails the picture will have an hourglass shape to it with black in the middle on the sides, or you will see square objects as hourglass shapes.

I would recommend that you have a local service center diagnose the set for you and give you an estimate of the repair.
I have seen this type of repair run from $250.00 - $350.00.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
