Keyless Entry Remote Fob Clicker for 2002 Explorer With DoItYourself Questions & Answers
Cooling fans not working
Have the temp sender checked out. This is what switches the fans on when things get too hot. I hope its steam from the hood and not smoke. Get the cooling system repaired and refilled with the proper coolant and then have the temp sender tested. Its usual there are one or more units on the thermostat housing. With the ignition on pull off the wiring connector and jump between the wires and see if the fans start. If they do, its the sender. A few bucks from a parts house. If not then you will have to follow the fuse box to switch to fan trail to establish there is power.
99 Ford Explorer, two alarm systems installed, set each other off
Depends on which alarm is being tripped by your FIL.
If it is the Ford Factory, you may be able to trade the keyfobs with somebody or get new ones and have them programmed to your Explorer.
If it is the aftermarket, then ask your FIL where it was installed at, and ask them to disable it / change remote ID#s.

They remote is for the immobiliser system. Immobilisers are designed to be VERY difficult to bypass otherwise why fit them? Your simplest solution here is to go to a car key specialist and get a new remote. Once the old one fails the car will not start at all.

Im having a problem with my remote start. It goes on , but shuts off in 15 seconds. I have a Ford Explorer with a viper alarm.
Just a guess, since some disengage if signal not getting thru that motor running, to prevent starter brushes overheating, burning, etc, and you say motor starts, maybe a dirty electrical connection, like oil or something got in somewhere, interfering with that signal being received. To rule that out I guess yourself or shop, have all electrical connectors looked at for oil, dirt, oxidation, loose, etc... Simply pulling connectors and pushing back on few times might do it if that the issue. Notice if it feels tight or not. If oily dirty, maybe spray male and female parts of connector with alcohol based spray degreaser. Silicone spray has fast evaporating alcohol but the silicone may interfere with electrical connection. Also, be sure your remote button not triggered by weak spring contacting when you set it down or put in pocket as that'll act to shut off if already on. I had 1 get like that. Would park car, head in, putting remote in pocket after going in, would notice car running from inside.
