Yamaha RX-V595 Receiver will play Dolby Digital 3/2.1 audio Blu-Ray disc with player set to bitstream but will not play DTS-HD 3/2.1 unless output is set to PCM. Is this an issue with the Yamaha Recei

The optical connection (SPDIF) doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer DTS-HD audio. To use DTS-HD, you must connect the blue-ray player and receiver via HDMI cable. Each DTS-HD audio track on blue-ray includes also "normal" DTS audio, which is probably used when you select PCM. Player decodes it and sends decoded (non-HD) audio via optical cable to receiver.

Problem with potentiometer Does anybody know

A little more triage would be in order before you take a knife to it.

Turn the volue to something in the middle.

If it's only an analog source doing it I would suspect a bad switch contact somewhere in the signal path. Typically, it might be a switch you rarely use, like a Tape Monitor or Mute. It's wise to occasionally (with power OFF) manipulate all manual controls throughput their ranges a number of times to wipe oxides from their contacts.

My yamaha keeps turning off as soon as i turn it

Buy yourself a 120mm 12volt computer case fan and a 12volt power pack. Mount the fan with some double sided tape to the grill on top of your AVR. Have the fan mounted so it draws air out of the amp and turn it on when you know you are going to crank up the volume. Try and buy a fan with the lowest noise level so it isn't annoying

The sound will suddenly go off on my Yamaha

This is a classic over heating problem. There are 2 likely causes - hope for the first.
1. The speakers or wiring have a problem and draw too much current from the receiver. Carefully check your wiring. If it looks OK, leave both speakers disconnected and turn the volume control all the way down. Power the unit up. If it stays running, then try one speaker then the other (at low volumes to avoid damage) and see if one makes it shut down. If it does not stay running then see #2.
2. The power amp circuitry of the receiver has an issue causing it to overheat or the overtemp circuit is faulty and it thinks its overheating. Either way, this one needs professional help.
Good luck

Our unit turned off suddenly one day, and now you

If it trips almost instantly then you have a serious power supply rail problem rather than just a channel down. You need a Yamaha specialist to look at it, there aren't any fuses for that.

Yamaha M-60 Power Amplifier distortion and sound goes off sometimes

Being from 1985 or there abouts, it probably needs some TLC at a Yamaha service centre. May need new capacitors and resolder dry joints for age related issues.

Jerky sound in one channel Yamaha M-60 Power Amplifier

WD-40 ... Very dangerous as it not only flammable when wet but is bad for electrical contacts as it leaves a residue behind that does not conduct electricity very well. Check speaker connections first.
