Bryant Westinghouse Bqc Quad Circuit Breaker Questions & Answers
I have a new furnace and the breaker keeps tripping (20/30). It is a bryant westinghouse box. I think 200 amphes
1) You got a FIRE truck coming.2) Wire is too small.Problem is NOT circuit breaker.3) Both 240Volt appliances on same breaker is a hazard, especially if space available in 200 amp service panel for more breakers.4) Usually each 240V appliance has separate breaker.5) Circuit breaker trips because of High heat on the wire.If wire gets hot, it will start a fire inside the wall.Electric code requires wire-size match breaker-size.6) If you put larger amp breaker on same wire that is getting hot, then wire will get hotter.Result: FIRE truck middle of night with folks jumping out window in glass-cut bare run across yard. 7) Each appliance has volts and watt rating on label.EVERY appliance has label.8) For example stove might be rated 8000 watts and 240Volt.8000 watts divided by 240 volts = 33.3 ampsStove would require 40 amp breaker and 8 gauge wire.9) How to figure it out:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Color-codewire.htmlhttp://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-a-subpanel.html10) Do same calculation for new furnace.12000 watt furnace divided by 240 volts = 50 amps.Use 60 amp breaker and 6 gauge wire.11) Summary: fixya wants you to be safe, and buy stuff showing in the ads.Use a bigger breaker ONLY when bigger wire is also installed.Call furnace installer, the installer should know to check safe wiring before installing. I need to replace
The reason for using the quad, is so that if any one of them trips, they all trip. GE used to sell lever covers that would join the levers together. I don't know if they still do. And I don't know if the Bryant breaker is JUST 4 single poles with their levers connected together.

I have older bryant 200 amp meter main panel and i need dead front
u would have to special order it if possible best thing would be to call supply houses and ask there sales reps. sometimes they will have things that they don't stock laying around or find one that is tore out, or getting torn out would be ur best chance

Will a bryant type mh fit in place of a type mp
Hi Dave,I'm an electrician and want to help you with this question. An MH breaker may be used in place of an MP type, only if the label on the panel says that the MH is acceptable for use in the panel.Even if the MH type physically fits, if it is not one of the types listed on the label it cannot be installed without violating the National Electrical Code. Now, I know breaking some law that no one will ever likely come into your house to check on (like the mattress tags), the fact is that the panel is UL listed because it was tested with all the breakers the manufacturer included. The panel and breakers are UL listed only when used together. If you install a breaker that was not tested for use in that panel (even if it was tested and is UL listed for use in another panel), the UL listing is considered voided.A voided UL listing - not much to worry about, right? Well, yes and no. really If there should be an electrical fire in your home, and the the FD investigates (they almost always do) to determine the cause - and an improper circuit breaker is found - your insurance company may not be quite so willing to to cut you a check to cover your losses. So, think about it. Why gamble with a circuit breaker if it isn't approved for use in your panel when you can probably get the right one to begin with? I hope this helps & good luck!

I turned of my main
My electrician buddy says never turn off the main on the weekend.
Main breakers are subject to heat for a long time. Heat shortens the life of all electrical devices.
Click main all the way to one side, and then push back
If it doesn't engage, then the breaker is probably bad

What does it mean when I can't trip the fuse breaker back on
It normally means that you still have a short somewhere in that home run. SO something that the circuit breaker controls is drawing more amperage than what the circuit breaker is rated for. So you need to unplug everything on that line and then plug them in one at a time until it trips the breaker.
