Most likely the reason for the failure to start when hot is worn piston rings. Do you have small amounts of oil coming out the exhaust? That's a good sign of worn rings. If qualified, replace your rings and bore out your piston sleeve. You'll be running like new and no more having to wait until it cools to finish the job.

Always take pictures or make notes to help out like a road map if you left fuel li new attached to the other it will then be noticed

Make sure chain tension on the bar is correct and then the 2 nuts holding the bar is correct, Youtube has alot of videos on how to set chain tension as well as the Oregon website

Initial settings are one full turn CCW on both low and high side adjustments.

Go to a good hardware store. I believe that all chains use the same size file. You can also get a guage there also.

Gently turn both carb screws in all the way. Then turn each out one turn. The fast screw is marked with an H and the slow is marked with an L.

I have found that the number one reason for a loose chain is from stretching, and that comes from heat or clearing small brush. Heat being that it is not oiling properly and wears quicker, and the small brush answer (cutting lots of 1/2 in Buckthorn) tends to jerk the chain and manually stretches rather than a steady cut in a log which tends to be smoother.With that said, yours might be something else. If I can ask a few question... When the saw was purchased, did you install the bar and chain? Second your level of experience - and is this your first saw. What I need to rule out is that the bar could be on wrong. This saw was more than likely built by Poulan and it should have 2 nuts holding the bar. Does the bar loosen up? If the answer is no you might have a bar that is miss matched to the chain. What that means is that the chains "drivers", the tooth that is down in the bar could be a .050 and the bar could be a .063, hence the chain wobbles more that it should and might be more prone to jumping off. Solution: Replace bar and chain and make sure they are a matched, lastly, always cut with a sharp chain. Good luck,kj

I put a new bar and chain on my craftsman 18" chainsaw because the chain keeps coming loose. I am still having the same problem, after running 10 seconds, the chain falls off.

hi, your spark plug gap should be the thickness of a hacksaw blade. use a hacksaw blade. sheers

Hi Belinda, I am not sure what you are asking for when you say headbolt. If you mean cylinder bolt, jug bolt or head bolt then approximately 125 inch pounds.. not foot pounds!!! This image I found for a Poulan chainsaw site, Poulan makes most of Craftsman saws. If you match the size you should find your torque setting. jeromekj
