Cannot find lock button to lock shaft to enable me

There is no lock button on this model. Look for a hole just above the head or blade and insert something like a nail or allen wrench in the hole to lock the shaft.

I have an old der DW100 band saw. Is there a trick to switching it on

Could be any number of things. The electrical cord plug could be bad. A break in the cord wiring is a possibility. Check it over to make sure power is getting to the saw. The on/off switch could be bad. Do you hear a click when you switch it? The band motor could be worn. With the saw in the on position, tap the motor with a hammer.
