how long was the new Altenator on the vehicle? The car should have a self tenshioner on that car. Make sure you routed the belt in the correct order. It is possible the Alt. was bad from the factory, It does not happen a lot but it does happen. The only other thing it could be is a short in the electrical system.

4.6 Northstar V8. It is located on the rear of engine (driver side) in front. It is in the the water pump housing cover. Remove air box and intake tube and bottom radiator hose. 2 bolts(believe 10mm) on thermostat housing. These systems are a little finicky about air pockets....so fill slowly and let run at idle until operating temp and let cool and check level.....fill as needed and repeat if needed.
