Magellan RoadMate 300 GPS Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
SD Card for magellan 300,Can I use any card on it?
The Magellan Roadmate 300 and 300R both require preloaded map data to be supplied from an SD card. You can't just pop any card into the slot and get it working. It requires a card of 2GB or less loaded with Magellan mapping software. Magellan provides nationwide maps and regional maps. The 300R was a regional unit while the 300 included a national basemap.
If you have a model 300, you can still use the highway basemap to get routing from city to city but you will not have detailed address routing at the residential street level unless you insert an SD card with Magellan software. If you have a 300R model, the unit will be useless without the Magellan software on an SD card.
Magellan doesn't seem to offer much software support for this unit any more and the maps are difficult to find.

Does not power up.
HELLO THERE:
Normally on these devices there is asystem reset that can be accomplished by pressing and holding in the reset button for 4 minutes and if this is a newer device than they have a internal reset feature that requires you to press in the reset for 3 minutes and than leaving the device unplugged over night or 4 to 6 hours and if this still does not work there is a small fuse that is on the main board that will fail and needs to be relpaced
If you feel confident about opening the unit up, radio shack sells the fuse that will fit this device.
But if the unit is still under warranty i would use the warranty and have the unit serviced and they will also provide you with any updates that are available if any ok?
I hope that this has been very helpful for you
Best regards michael

Dead battery
i do not believe the 300 has a battery. plug it in to a know good charger and hold the power button for up to ten seconds and see if it starts, if not, you might have a bad power port which can be bought
Here tell him you only need one.
if you need someone to repair it for you, let me know by replying to this Question.

When I power up the
Unfortunately the authorization code comes from Magellan so there is no way for us as end users to bypass it. I would call back to Magellan and ask to speak to a supervisor or manager. Someone there has to be able to provide the authorization codes, tell them you have a very popular blog and plan to let everyone know just how horrible Magellan's customer service is unless they help you. It is ridiculous that they would be holding you hostage essentially like this. I wish I could provide you with the authorization codes but unfortunately it is tied to the unique identifier from your magellan unit, and the serial number of the map software, both things that Magellan can easily check, and then provide you with the code.
I would keep calling until someone gives it to you, that is simply not acceptable.
So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but noone on here will be able to give you those codes, it is a manufacturer dependent thing.
Good luck, sometimes it just takes a little persistence, and like I said, make sure you are talking with at least a level one supervisor.
