20 Most Recent Onkyo HTR500 Receiver - Page 5 Questions & Answers

I had this problem also and discovered an easy way to trick it into powering on: Click the power button, then within 1 second of the receiver powering off, click the power button again. The receiver should stay on this time. This works with both the button on the receiver and the remote control.
I would like to know what causes this problem and whether or not I should be concerned about damage being done. I assume this is a power protection. I haven't tried plugging this receiver into a different power socket to test, but I don't think the power plug is the problem. Note: I have the subwoofer plugged into the power plug on the back of the receiver.

doubt that reset will fix your problem---but here it is if you want to try:
hold down the cd button and press the power button [at the same time]
test will [should] appear on screen for about 5 seconds--you need to unplug the set during this 5 second period. this resets the cpu chip.
hope it helps solve your problem.

How is TV audio (from the cable box) getting into the Receiver? If digitally, you wouldn't be missing any one channel on a connection malfunction, you'd lose them all. If analog, swap the channels around to isolate the problem (and reconsider using digital).

If you have the money to plunk down for a Bose Acoustimass home theater speaker system, I'm sure you will be quite pleased. Of course, as you indicated, appropriate placement of the speakers is important. Still, I'm sure you will find that a properly placed Bose Acoustimass speaker system will fill your room with high quality sound, substantially better than Onkyo's stock speakers placed equally well.

I own a Technics home theater system, which I initially purchased to use in my family room. Yet, when I listened to a Bose Lifestyle system (powered by Bose Acoustimass speakers), I could have nothing less. The Bose system went in the family room, where everyone could enjoy it. I put the Technics system in the bedroom, where it is rarely used.

I had the same issue, there is a Late night mode on the remote that minimizes the volume of a loud scene so you don't have the constantly adjust the volume. Works great if you are trying to watch a movie while others are trying to sleep.

I have the same problem. No sound on the speakers or on the headphones.

The output on your amplifier inside the receiver has failed. Sometimes all it takes is a move to reveal a cracked solder joint, or a slight bump to damage an old fragile diode or resistor.
This will need to be looked at by a professional - as there is no magic reset button that will make it work again.

scart can only support 1x video signal and 1x L and 1x R in one direction
if you have a scart cable with more than 3 cinch connectors then you have one for two way, but you want to send 5 audio and 1 video channel one way from sky box to your receiver.

looking at the spec, your receiver does support a digital coaxial connection ( cinch orange) and a digital fibre connection
it also supports composite 5.1 analogue connection which is where are most likely already connected.
it does not seem to be a HDMI device.
if your sky box also has digital coax or fibre I recommend using one of these
alteratively if you wish to use analogue input on your receiver then ensure your topbox has corresponding 5.1 cinch connectors.
usually labelled (center, front, surround and possible also subwoofer)

if your receiver can generate 5.1 from 2.0 stereo (dolby pro-logic II) then ensure this setting is selected on your receiver.

not knowing what your sky box details are I can not say what is the best option. also check that your sky box is sending 5.1 signal out as some programmes may only be being sent in stereo so prologic will have to be activated to generate 5.1 from stereo.

I can tell you how to plug all your gear together, & make it very easy for you, after you answer just a few quick questions.

First, having the model number of the sony receiver and sanyo tv will help me make it as easy as possible.

Second, tell me what kind of cables you will be using. If you haven't considered this, it is your first decision then. From your dvd player and dish box you have optical audio or PCM audio (rca cable). If your gear is HD, then you have two video options: HDMI or component (3 x RCA cable).

One way or another, it sounds like the amp has blown. Probably the outpous and/or drivers and such. Perhaps one of the speakers was either shorted, wires touching or hooked up wrong.

well it depends on what audio device installed on your computer coz other you can make an adjustment for 4 channel, 5 channel & 7 channel speakers including sub woofer and surrounds. try to check your setting or the best way is to unplug your front speaker and sub woofer. good luck!!!
