Fargo DTC400 ID Card Printer Package - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Fargo DTC400 is giving me "INVALID RIBBON" error
I think you or your machine have answered your own question. The machine said it isn't going to use the 300 ribbon and that is that.
I dont have experience with your particular model but I can tell you a Ford starter will not start a Chevrolet automobile.
I think you should take the 300 ribbon back and get a 400. If they wont take it back, trade somewhere else.
So, what do you say?

Ribbon mis-cue?
When you have a ribbon mis-cue, first remove the ribbon. Go to the printer driver, printing preferences, calibrate, sensors. Click sesors then send... You should hear 2 beeps. Put you ribbon back in and try to print again.
If you still have the mis-cue it is a belt issue all DTC400's made 2006 and prior have had this belt issue. I don't recommend fixing this yourself, send it to a authorized Fargo repair center. This way it is under warranty.

if it says initializing when you first turn it on and stays that way, you have a bad board, if you need repair of the unit, contact me.
I have a Fargo 4250E and when I try to print a card the color is not printing, or it prints a random pattern or it looks smudged. It's hard to describe.
The first questions I would ask is what type of cards you're using and what is the source of those cards? Are they pre-printed, and you're adding print to them? Were the same ribbons & cards used successfully in the past, but now are failing? Are they genuine Fargo ribbons that are either new, or have been maintained in environmentally controlled storage since new AND are less than 2-years from manufacturing date? Also verify that the printer power-supply is the correct/original one that was supplied with the printer. They're usually 24VDC, and either 3.3A or 3.75A output.
These printers are designed to print ONLY on PVC or PVC/Composite cards with image-grade finishing. If pre-printed, they must have a coating applied to allow them to accept thermal dye-sublimation inks, as used in Fargo DTC printers. If the ribbons are old, or you suspect exposed to extremes of heat and/or cold, try a fresh and genuine Fargo ribbon.
Post back with any additional information, questions, or observations and we'll try to help further.
