Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

check your manual it will state what why its flashing.sound like its getting to hot, might be to near the wall and not getting enough air at the back.adrian,,,,

No reason it wouldn't work fine. It should be noted that if your in a grocery store the freezer sections used to store ice cream are separate from those for normal produce.
The reason is the ice cream is normally kept 15 degrees colder.
However, this unit has an adjustable tstat that should get you around the ideal 0 degree range.
As well, it's designed to be rugged not as energy effecient as a standard domestic freezer.

Locate the Temperature Control Knob: The temperature control knob is typically located inside the freezer compartment. It allows you to adjust the temperature settings. Understanding the Knob: For Top Mount ™ Models: The temperature control knob is usually located in the refrigerator section. At higher altitudes (e.g., 1000 meters above sea level), set the refrigerator temperature control to one-half setting warmer than MID. For Bottom Mount (BM) Models: Adjust the refrigerator temperature using the bottom knob. Setting the Temperature: Turn the knob clockwise (usually towards the "colder" side) to lower the temperature. Turn the knob counterclockwise (towards the "warmer" side) to raise the temperature. Adjusting the fridge compartment temperature may cause a small change in the freezer temperature. Remember to allow some clearance around the freezer for proper ventilation.

Just inherited and no manual for controls

The Kelvinator FD830 upright freezer has three temperature indicator lights located on the top right outside corner to show the current temperature range inside the freezer. The green light indicates that the temperature is within the safe operating range, while the yellow light indicates that the temperature is rising and nearing the upper limit. The red light indicates that the temperature has exceeded the safe operating range and may lead to food spoilage.

The fix is to replace ther faulty cpmponent. To do that, one must fault find the item with a multimeter, basic tools and electrical knowledge.

freezer --no every time you open the freezer door , the cold air is dropped to the floor so the unit has to work hard to bring the temp back down same as any up right freezer fridge --it is as efficient as the rest

get a meter and check for short or seized motor --compressor

the problem could be the heater element, bimetal, thermostat, fuse.must open freezer cover and check.

Depending on the model you pull the cover from evap coil and you will see either a bimetal thermostat or the timer

Adjusting the thermostat clockwise will normally lower the freezing temperature on unit.. If it does not, either the thermostat is defective or perhaps the unit is low on refrigerant.

as kelvinator use a model number to denote size I would suggest that it is a 200 ltr freezer Call a kelvinator service repair centre and they will tell you what size it is.

Sounds like its got blockage. There is a channel that allows cold air to "fall" into the bottom chamber. There is also a return. Typically the "fall" chamber is choked with either something that fell in and was trapped, frozen solid with ice or algie has grown and closed the hole. The best thing to do is empty it completely and inspect the drop channel. Put all your frozen goods in ice chests to keep them from thawing out. Good Luck.
