Cambridge Audio Azur 840C CD Player - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
What is wrong with my CD player?
Great player. Although the manual does not say a thing about this error, I'll try.
I think you use normal CD's and not disks you or someone burned for you.
The only thing I can think of is the CD must be dirty to scratched.
Or if you try to play disks, burned in a PC, that could cause trouble too. Although all CD and DVD burners in a PC, can play these disks, not all CD players can. Only the ones where the manufacturer says the drive is compatible with CD-R and or CD-RW.
A normal CD has metal as a reflector and gives a clear image from the ones and zeros on the disk. CD-R and CD-RV only have a dye on which a laser has changed the colour. Not giving a clear distinction between ones and zeros. The better CD players, have a stable motor and so on, but the laser is not set up for the dye disks. And although sometimes a disk can be played, for the player it looks lie a "dirty" disk.
I hope this helps.
If not, perhaps you should clean the laser, with a special cleaning disk. DONT open the player and DONT touch the laser.
Why can my azur 840c not read cd
Hard to tell but in my city, most people changed the laser head or the whole assembly and things are all fixed in such case. The model of the laser head is Sanyo SF-P101N, not sure if the 840C using the same parts in the whole production run, but if one knows how to DIY, might worth a try.
Cambridge Audio AZUR 840C Transport Jamming when disk is loaded
The above comment is complete and utter nonsence !Here's what you do . Take the lid off , take off the top of the cd transport marked "CD 1 Low Jitter Compact Disc Transport" held on with 2 screws , rince it under warm water (its made of plastic) and refit . Its a build up of dust . Yoy will have to do this every 2-3 years . P.S Leave on "stand-by" because you will do more damage to the circuit boards by cutting the power continually .
Developed a hiss crackle and pop on the right and
What happens if you select the CD but have NO CD player connected? It could be garbage leaking in through a signal cable.
Or it might be a flaky switch contact somewhere in the signal path on your amp. Typically, it might be a switch you rarely use, like a Tape Monitor or Mute. It's wise to occasionally (with power OFF) manipulate all manual controls throughput their ranges a number of times to wipe oxides from their contacts.
I have a Cambridge 840C
This high end player uses separate power sources for each separate stage of each channel, the only common part for both channels is the first DAC stage .
From what you describe it appears that some of the power sources are overheating and failing - specifically the one for the preamp stage of the right channel. The fact that you have kept it constantly on has been the cause of the problem - the components inside it have been severely stressed and they aged way faster than normal. Keep the unit completely off - unplug it from the mains - until you locate the nearest dealer then take it to them to have it fixed : this is definitely not a regular electronics repairman job.
Caimbridge audio amp right channel always dies
Stereo amps are two mono amps put together. So if you have a bad channel then you also have a good channel to compare it with. I suspect you have a faulty transistor. You can test it by proding the channels with a pen or your finger - touching plastic only parts. The two channels should buzz. If buzzs in the left then if you touch it in the right it should do the same. An alteration or change in the sound in the right and you have found the faulty part. It's nothing to do with the power supply section so keep away from that!
How to wire my speaker to my amp
The speakers may have plugs that are compatible with sockets in the rear of the ampm if they are compatible it is a simple matter of inserting the pins and pushing them home.
It may be that the speakers just have bare wires and the amp has spring loaded wire retainers ...in that case you will acertain which of the speaker wires is negative and which is positive and , while pushing down the spring loaded clamp of the speaker wire retaining clamp, you should insert the appropriate wire in the
appropriate hole and release the catch
as a matter of interest what are the makes and models of amp and speakers?
Why does my Cambridge Audio Azur 851W power down even when a signal is operating.
amps like this only power down when there is a problem with the amp, usually a shorted output stage, but could also be shorted speaker wires or damaged speakers, it's a self protection mechanism
do you get sound from both speakers before it powers down?? if you do it is definitely an internal problem so take it to a repair facility,,,
if not check the speaker cables & the speakers themselve
740c drawer wont close
This is often a symptom of a worn drive belt for the drawer mechanism. A competent service technician will usually be able to fit a replacement belt.
Cd80 error
It looks like the player is struggling to read an 80minute CD -maybe. This is possible, since the standard size is 74 minutes, and anything longer than that is not guaranteed to be read on all devices. Try once a normal commercial CD, or a short E.P. CD.
