Hi,
I have Motorola SURFboard SBG901
If you have no wireless devices to connect to the internet, you don't need a new router. There is speed test software you can google and download. It will tell you exactly how fast your connection speed is. You may need to upgrade your service too. One thing to do first is to clean up your PC. That means clearing all cache, deleting useless files and cleaning the registry. A program called CCleaner will do the job nicely. Next is to max out the amount of memory your motherboard will support. Make sure you keep at least 100 Mb of free space on your hard drive.If it's any less, your PC will be really slow. Adding an additional hard drive or an external drive is the answer to that.

How do you change to bridge mode
If you are thinking of bridge mode that a DSL modem can be set in, cable modems are by design set up like this. Cable modems are dumb that are only made to pass the public IP address given to whatever is behind it, therefore making it always in a bridge mode.
How do i initially install
Locate the MAC id number on the modem. May be called the HRC mac id. Write this number down.
Connect the modem to an active cable outlet with a coax cable (the type that you would screw into the back of your tv).
Connect your computer to the modem with an Ethernet cable.
Connect the power cord and plug it into a power outlet.
Turn your computer on.
Call your cable provider and choose the options for tech support for internet.
They will need that MAC id number and then they should be able to set it up on your account and allow access to the internet.
Thanks,
Robert
I am able to connect
Telephone your Internet Service Provider.
Make them "EARN" this month's service-fees that you are paying them.
If they cannot support their modem and cannot support you as a paying customer, it's time to switch to an ISP that _does_ support you.
How to set up the wireless internet connect on my
Short answer: YOU DO NOT.
The cable-modem just converts from the cable-company's signals to/from Ethernet signals.
You use an Ethernet cable to connect the output from the cable-modem to the 'WAN' (or 'Internet') port on a router with wireless capabilities. Then, you configure the router to create your own wireless network, with:
* an SSID ("network name")
* encryption level (use: WPA)
* a password for your network
Then, your wireless device can cite the SSID/password to authenticate to the router.
My laptop had a virus,
Use an Ethernet cable to make a "wired" connection from the network-port on your laptop to one of the LAN ports on your wireless router. Then, "login" to the router, and run the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard", to set:
* SSID ("network name")
* encryption-level ('WPA' or better, please)
* password for your network
With those settings, your wireless-adapter should be able to connect.
