My laptop is shutting down on its own after a few

Hello

Thank you for using Fixya!

To address the problem at hand, we will need to look at a couple of factors. I will list them, and explain:

1. This can be a Virus which have infected the computer and automatically shuts down the computer.

2. This can be a battery problem. If the unit powers off while it is plugged into the adapter, it is not a battery problem.

3. Lastly, and most probable, it is an overheating issue. This is a very common problem with al notebooks.

Let me know some more details on the exact problem. Do you get an error message or a blue screen?

Since i stated the it is most probably an overheating issue, we can determine it by the following questions:

Does the CPU fan Spin louder(Faster) than usual?
Does the computer shut down after an approximate time each time?

If the fan runs louder than usual, it is most probably that the dust particles on the CPU fan is preventing the sufficient air flow to cool down the CPU, hence the computer shuts down to prevent damage to the CPU.

At the link below you will be directed to a page which will explain to you how to clean the CPU fan. This is now your exact model, so, if you want to attempt this, and is sure that it is an overheating problem, you can follow the steps.

Your cooling fan will either be located under the keyboard, or on the back of the notebook itself. Have a look at the links below and follow the applicable steps.

Let me know, i will gladly help.

Toshiba laptop l 305-s5911.when im trying to

Dear Friend
There are multiple issues that can cause the computer not to start. First, I will check the fan and see if it spin normally. Usually when the chipset overheats and the fan does not do his job, the processor automatically shout down his operation to protected for overheating.
Second, hard drive can be bad.
Third, get a copy of windows, boot up your pc and as soon as you get to the Microsoft installation page, select the recovery option. This might help.
Good Luck!

Warning your cooling system needs

That is rather over the top for an overheat problem. Maybe the heat transfer system has leaked and no longer works properly.
Cleaning the exhaust fan usually clears this error.

How do i repair the cmos for satellite l500? Bios

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link. Although article is about removing BIOS password the second, third and fourth methods pretty much will bring the BIOS to initial factory settings.

I would suggest getting Hiren's Boot CD and use Kill CMOS to wipe the BIOS to the factory settings.

I would turn the laptop carefully upside down making sure that the power cord is NOT connected and remove the battery usually a slide catch or something similar holding it in position

hopefully that will cut all power to the laptop and hence hopefully shut down

when light go out and you can hear nothing then put battery back in and use power cord if needed

My laptop screen is shaking, i have a toshiba..i

Flickering can be caused by a lamp going bad or a video card going bad having a computer wiped would not have caused this issue. You can check by going to devices making sure the driver files are loaded for the video driver. Start there if it continues to flicker on you take it to someone that know what they are doing to repair this electronic issue which can only be repaired by a tech. Just a suggestion that is what I would do.
The video card is most likely integrated in the motherboard and the lamp is located internally in the monitor screen. You will have to disassemble the lap top to work on this and test it. So if you do not want to ruin this lap top take it in save yourself a headache and more expense. John
