Just purchased, refurbished, Canon MX870 printer

Try to follow these steps:
Try keeping the paper only in the bottom tray (there's a tray in the bottom) Try pulling any paper out of the top and just close that top tray. Open up the head so that u can see the ink cartridges and turn the printer on and off and maybe it will center itself again. If it's still not working (even if lights aren't red and print head wont align in the center) try manually moving the head back and forth like 18 times so you can lubricate that rail in the back that's holding it. After that, re-turn it off and on again.
hope it will solve the issue, do rate the solution if got help

Won't print Easy-PhotoPrint photos: Error

In the program try to go to file print, or the likes. What you need is the printer dialog box to open and make sure that this printer is selected in the pull box. Also depending on your operating system go to Start>control panel>printers(or printers and faxes). Make sure that the printer is set to default. Should have a check mark in a circle. If you can right click it and select set as default then that will make it the default printer. That should help you getting it to print. Otherwise I would delete the printer after downloading the latest drivers and reinstalling the printer. You can get the drivers/software from the link below just click it make sure on the page that opens that drivers & software is selected and then choose your operating system:
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/office_all_in_one_inkjet_printers/pixma_mx870#DriversAndSoftware
Only try reinstalling the drivers after you have tried my first suggestions.
Thank you,
Lee

Just unpacked and installed mx870. Printer runs

Try one or more of these solutions:

Make sure that you are using the appropriate printer driver for this product.

In Windows, make sure this product is selected as the default printer.

Check the settings on the Main menu (Windows) or in the Page Setup dialog box (Macintosh). Make sure the settings are appropriate for the paper size you are using.

Run the Head Cleaning utility to clear any clogged nozzles. See "Cleaning the Print Head" in the Quick Reference Guide.
After trying one or more of these solutions, run a printer operation check to check your results. See Running a printer operation check.

Running a printer operation check
If you are unable to determine the source of the problem, performing a printer operation check can help you determine whether the problem comes from this product or the computer.

Follow these steps.

Disconnect the USB cable from your computer.

Make sure that letter-size paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.

Press the On button while also pressing the Ink button.

This product prints an operation check page that includes a nozzle check pattern.

Compare the quality of the printed test page with the sample shown below. If there are no print quality problems, this product is fine and the problem probably lies with the printer software settings, the application settings, the interface cable (be sure to use a shielded cable), or the computer itself.

If the test page does not print satisfactorily, there is a problem with this product. For example, if bands appear in the check pattern as shown below, an ink nozzle may be clogged or the print head may be misaligned. See "Cleaning the Print Head" in the Quick Reference Guide for details on cleaning the print head.
