Cannot receive faxes on Canon Pixma MX870, but can send faxes

I was searching for an answer to this to make sure my new MX870 is correctly set to receive faxes. Here's one answer I came across:

First set Tel-Priority, turn off incoming ring, turn on manual/auto switch, then check how many seconds it takes for your answering machine to come on, and set it a couple of seconds after that. This should do the trick.

Remove the Protective Material Before turning on the machine, remove all the orange tapes and protective sheets. If the machine is already on, press the ON button to turn off the machine before removing the packing / shipping materials.
Let me know if this corrects the problem. Thanks.

I have a Canon Printer

Depends on the program you're printing with, more so than the printer. Usually there's a flip option to make it flip the other way so that it prints out backwards. Then when you put it on t shirt, it comes out correctly. :)

I have a Canon Printer

The black ink (smaller cartridge) will not kick in, but if you are just getting the warning that the ink in the larger cartridge is out, you can override the alam by holding down the OK button on the printer. Once you do this, the printer will continue to print, but you have to manually monitor the ink to assess when the cartridge needs to be replaced.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Can not print with canon

The airprint system is not yet compatible with all printers. Were you told that you could print to this printer from your iPad?
There is a piece of software for Macs that allows any printer to print from an iPad or iPhone 4 called Printopia 2. I've been using it to print to an Epson A3 printer and a Canon A4.

Do not know how to

if you are able to send faxes it means you are set up correctly, meaning that you have connected your printer/fax machine up correctly to the phone lines. all you need to do is make sure the printer/fax is on while you are receiving the fax, there is no "fax receive mode" however, you need to know that if you use the same line for your phone and for your fax that your phone will ring when receiving a fax, if you answer it will ruin the fax, there is a special configuration you can access which will let your printer work more effectively, such as to intercept faxes and immediately process them before letting your phone ring, or waiting a certain amount of time or such. you can consult the specifications of your device to know the exact settings you have available.

There is a foreign object in my printer and I

A crude method but works sometimes is to lift the printer shake it ans then turn it up and down and side ways. May be the foreign object gets displaced/dislodged and then it can drop out from any of the openings when you are shaking it or turning it up down. Otherwise I will not advise you to open the printer yourself. Please have it checked and serviced by a company technician.

When printer selects paper from rear tray the

It seems to be fault in the transport of the paper in the rollers which can be bad or has some sticky substance .If you have used any adhesive sticker printing, it is possible that some glue has got clogged into the rollers. If not there can be some jammed paper in the rollers or the mechanism.
So start this work only if you are mechanically able with the right tools.
Remove the covers to get access to the mechanism . Remove the motor drive assembly , the fitting of the motor to the mechanism. Once this is removed the rollers can be turned manually so that you will be able to feed a paper to see the progress of the movement while studying if there is any obstruction or damage to the paper.
There is a in-detect sensor, usually an opto-coupler , make sure this is not clogged or dirty as this IR detection feeds the signal to the processor for starting the motor drive feed.
Reassemble but make sure the rollers are aligned to be in equal gap to feed the paper without a side pull. Now you must print and see if the fault has changed. If not repeat the above work to confirm the area of obstruction.

Get message "communication error has

I would go inside the devices and printers and preferences and see if there are any documents pending. Erase those. Check with your little icon on the desktop and check printer status or you could even go to the extreme of deleting canon in add and remove and reinstall from the canon website. Obviously with windows 7 if you just plug in you will get driver installed but printer runs much more smoothly if you first download the software package from canon.com and then link up wirelessly.

But first check that a document isn't pending printing.

I WANT TO PRINT FROM

I had this problem too. I discovered that my printer, with it's regular picture, had somehow been renamed as a Canon PIXMA Wireless Fax even though I already had it listed. Not only that, my Canon wireless printer was no longer listed. I deleted the new fax that was also listed as my default printer, and searched for my printer. I made it my default printer again and all worked as it should. I have a feeling this is happening with the latest driver updates.
