How can 8 get rid of A pop up that froze safari on my Mac ?

If you don't have a second backup browser (like Firefox or Chrome), follow the steps below.
  1. Restart your Mac holding down the shift key... that boots it into Safe Mode.
  2. Once it's up and running, open Safari... chances are, you may have downloaded and installed software that installed browser re-direct software.
  3. Download Firefox (if you don't already have it) and install it. It won't be needed, but this is for future issues if the same issue happens again.
  4. Google "Adware Medic", download and install the software. This app is a virus-free AppleScript that looks for browser re-direct software on your system.
  5. Run the software and delete what it finds. You'll then be prompted to restart your computer.
  6. Once restarted, open Safari. You're issue should have been resolved.
I hope this info helps!

I have a FireLite FWFL880 hard drive that I am using as a restor disk. It has two partitions, Images and 10.5. We would llike to use this drive to restore iMACs to a specific configuration, 10.10.2

Hi Andy, What computers are you trying to restore to? There are limitations some limitations in place. If you can reply to this, I'll support you as best as I can (I use to work for Apple at the Genius Bar). Hope this helps!

Fix ya com

Hi, When you say you've used Disk Utility, have you done both Repair Permissions, and Repair Disk? For Repair Disk you need t boot from a different drive, the original install DVD if you have it? Another thing to try is, remove and and then replace the RAM chips, sometimes the connections need to be re-seated. Thanks, John

How do I get my iMac to double as a monitor for my laptop?

Hi Mark, You can't use an iMac as a 'monitor'. But you could use Apple's screen sharing. On the MBP, go to System Preferences -> Sharing, and check the box for Screen Sharing. Now, on the iMac, in Finder select the MBP and then click the Screen Sharing button. You can now work with your MBP on the iMac. I do this a lot, you can even run the MBP in a 'Space' at full screen. Thanks, John

[email protected]

Visit appleid.apple.com to reset your password. Two options to reset: 1) Answer security questions (most people forget their answers) or 2) Use Email Verification. This is better, but only works if the email attached to the Apple ID is accessible by the user. My Apple ID

How to install new google desk top icon on mac

Pretty easy, but might require you do things you haven't done before...
  1. Visit Google.com or whichever Google you'd like as a desktop shortcut
  2. In the Address Bar/Search Bar at the top of the window, drag the Google icon to your desktop. This will create a Google-named generic icon on the desktop
  3. Do a Google image search for a .PNG file of whatever Google logo you'd like. I've provided a link for the Google Drive logo below.
  4. Once you've found one you like, click on it and it'll bring up a preview window. You'll be able to tell if it's a transparent icon (very critical) because you'll see a checkerboard pattern behind the logo.
  5. Click on the View Image button. It'll bring up the logo in it's own window.
  6. Click anywhere in the window and type COMMAND+A to select the image.
  7. Type COMMAND+C to copy the image
  8. Click on the generic document icon named Google on your desktop and type COMMAND+I. This brings up the Get Info window for the file.
  9. Click on the small file icon at the top left of the window. It'll be surrounded by a light blue "halo" showing that it's selected
  10. Type COMMAND+V to paste the image file. You'll see that the generic icons in the window are now changed to the Google logo.
If you choose the wrong file type and paste it in, don't worry... just undo your last action (COMMAND+Z) and all will be well! I hope this info helps! google logo Google Search http://core3.staticworld.net/images/article/2013/11/692px-google_drive_logo-100069375-large.png

Turn off sounds

Whatever is playing on each site should have their own Volume/Mute Audio function built into the player. Simply click on the icon that looks like a speaker on the player to mute, or select your volume level.

IMac serial # removed from internal and external places? Have partial?

If you can boot up your iMac, you should be able to recover your serial number by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper left of the screen and selecting "About This Mac." Your serial number will be there at the bottom of the window. Find your Mac serial number in About This Mac or System Information 25429817-bidpsgfultebnb2mzs5bev15-4-0.png

Tinyurl com

This seems to be a common problem with a lot of people. More often than not, it's because someone has installed MacKeeper or CleanMyMac, and these two applications have installed browser re-direct software. First point of business: You don't need either of these two pieces of software. Use AppZapper to remove these applications. Now here are the steps that should get you back up and running:
  • Restart your computer holding down the Shift key. That will boot your computer into Safe Mode
  • Once it's up, open Safari... it should open fine in this mode.
  • Download a backup browser like Chrome or Firefox (Firefox also installs a bunch of junk that you may not want) for future safety.
  • Google "Adware Medic" (link below) and download the app. This is a small AppleScript that searches through your system to find the items that are causing Safari not to open.
  • Download and open the .dmg file and drag the app to your Applications folder.
  • Run the app and follow the instructions for removing the adware/browser re-direct software.
  • Restart your computer as normal.
This should bring your system back up to par... ... and stop downloading and installing things you don't need! :-) AdwareMedic

Terminal reset

Every mounted partition on a mac is part of /Volume. Its a hidden folder by default and you may have changed it to show when you did your command. It should not change anything on your macs behavior but if it bothers you that much that its showing, then you'll need to hide it again.

My iMac has a fan noise after it went off by itself during the havy winds last night.

Sounds like your iMac is overheating. Here's a link to a page that gives you some ideas on how to prevent it: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac/how-fix-overheating-imac-imac-overheating-tips-advice-3462816/ If none of these help, taking the iMac to a repair facility is advised before you do irrepairable damage.
