Check the Power Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active. Rest the Shredder Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate. Clear Paper Jam Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear. Auto Mode Not Working Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.

I think the paper feed limit switch may be jammed disabling auto operation. Take precautions to unplug before opening up to inspect for jammed limit switch.

The red light typically means either something isn't installed right in the shredder head, or there's a paper jam. Did you recently take the shredder apart? If not, there's probably some jammed paper in there somewhere.

The red LED can mean one of two things -- either the shredder head is not assembled correctly (did you take the shredder apart recently?) or there is a paper jam inside the machine. Sometimes the jammed paper is far down and hard to see.

If it has a reverse function, you should try that to un-jam it.

Sorry don't mean to point out something obvious, but are you being shown any indication lights that the waste basket is not seated correctly in the bin or the head? If not, then you may want to try and check these connections anyway. Lights can burn out.

I found a website called shredderparts.com that sells replacement parts for Fellowes paper shredders, including gears, switches, and spare parts for the cutting head. I had this happen where I worked and I elected to fix it. You have to remove the screws in the base, and IIRC the ends. Then I used a knife to cut the laminate pouch and pull out the pieces with pliers. If you can turn it on without damaging the machine or zapping yourself, the heat will help. Yes you can, you can also spray it with WD40, leave it an hour, spray it again and run a few sheets of plain paper through it. WD40 is kerosene based.
