20 Most Recent Radio Shack Pro-96 Scanner Questions & Answers

Do you have something plugged into the side of the radio where the PC/IF port plug is? It sounds like it's looking for an update, and you need the RS cable a the 96 software in order to do that. Google it on radio reference.

Please try this!!You may need a soft or hard reset. Here's some reading and instructions. Please use this first! resetting your scanner1. Turn off your scanner, and then turn it on again.2. Insert a pointed object into the reset hole on the backof the scanner. Then, gently press and release the resetbutton. Pressing reset does not clear the scanner'sworking memory or the V-Scanner folders. If this doesn't work here's step two! CAUTION. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING, but it MAY Fix the Problem!!Initializing your scanner clears all information stored in yourscanner's working memory. Initialize your scanner only whenyou are sure it is not working properly. V-Scanner memory isnot affected when you initialize the scanner.1. Turn off the scanner, and turn it on again. First, the DSPboot version, and then Welcome To Digital Trunking appears.2. Press 0. The following messages appear on the display:System TestsSelect TestExits if no Key Press3. Press 1. Hi Loris,First, you turn on the radio, then press Mon/Hold key, then press No. [1] key. if your scanner is programmed, you should see the frequency displayed on the screen, example: 162.9875MHz, also on the screen you will see L/O icon, press L/O key and it will no longer show, then press Mon/Hold key and you'll go to channel [2], follow the above steps until you've unlocked all channels that are programmed in your radio scanner, when complete, press scan and your scanner will stop on any transmission it receives. If, however, you have not programmed any frequencies into your scanner, all you'll get as a frequency reading: 000.0000MHz, meaning you won't hear anything.Programming frequencies is easy, but you need to have a hard copy of your favorite frequencies for your location, these can be obtained from: www.radioreference.com where every USA state is covered, just copy and paste into any word processor and print out.You need to do the following to program.Press the [Prog] key, then select the channel to program to, then enter the frequency (key by key) leaving nothing out, that is as it's printed on the frequency list including the [.] decimal point, then press [Delay] key, then press [L/O] key (if icon is shown on display), then press [Prog] key again to go to the next channel, continue to follow the above steps until you have enough frequencies programmed to listen to.Only select frequencies for your location, as some will not be available even if in your state.I hope I have been of help to you.Cheers,Peter

I would visit the Radio Shack site--most aside from the button reset have another way to do this that will clear the issue.Might also try to Google the model number with keywords to see what you can find.
