Neato XV11 Vacuum Questions & Answers
Neato XV11 beater bar jam
Are you cleaning the beater bar (including removal and cleaning of the bearings at both sides of the brush) after every run? It's important that you try to minimize the hair that is getting into the drive shaft due to lack of maintenance.
This is a known issue with the XV series. It was improved with Botvac series, and improved even more with Botvac D-Series. The new Connected models hardly get any complaints of this nature, as the design has improved even more.
Neato seems to have died but the green light is on
Mine was doing same thing. was working flipped upside down to replace the rubber blades then nothing.Display dark only it has green led around orange button. Unplugging batteries didn't help.pressing buttons nothing. holding buttons down nothing. Found this on another site. Connect the vac to your computer and place it on charger at same time. Press and hold the orange button for about 10 sec. or so. it should turn of the LED then let up and repress button. vac should then reboot. Unplug computer. Wouldn't hurt at this time to tell it you put in "New Batteries" but first remove any scheduled cleaning days to clear its memory. After doing the New battery, reset the schedule and let it charge. After that it maybe a good time to check your program version and update it from the Neato web site to the newest update. The newest update does wonders for the battery run time issues.
Lcd screen not working
Even though I own a XV21 they forwarded this to me. You have replaced the battery with, I assume, a new one. So start with the charging system. First check the plug and other wiring. Pick up an inexpensive VOM meter. Harbor Frieght might be a good place to start your shopping. You can check the AC line for a break with the ohm setting. Be sure it's deenergized (unplug) :) Then check the output voltage (DC setting). If the output is up to spec then I'd guess it's something internal, and probably beyond the ability of an end user. Oh, and if you know someone with a machine which takes the same battery try charging yours on the friends charger, and swap out the batteries to see what happens.
My neato keep asking "put in my dirty bag"
Neato's dustbin, when inserted into the recess, makes contact with a switch that indicates that the dustbin is in place. First, ensure that when you insert the dustbin, you press down FIRMLY to make sure it's all the way in. You should hear it "click" into position.
If you hear the click, but it still isn't working without errors, it may be that the dustbin is not pressing down on the switch with sufficient force. The easiest fix for this problem is to tape a small piece of paper to the switch (to add some "height") so the switch will make better contact with the dustbin.
Finally, if neither of these methods works, it may signal a faulty switch in the dustbin receptacle. If the switch is faulty, you'll need to have the Neato serviced.
Battery error messages
I agree with JE :).
Did you check the old batteries with a volt meter? With the same error message pre and post replacement, either you are one of the people with bad luck, or it's in the "brains". You can attempt fault isolation, but I don't know if it would be worth the time since replacement parts from manufactures are notoriously expensive.
Finally check the charging station. Clean the rails on the charger, and the connections on the machine with alcohol. Sometimes the worst problems can be solved with one simple action, or at least Occam said.
Will not charge
This could point to several causes:
1) Accidentally disconnected battery or batteries inside Neato
2) A charger that is not properly assembled (check charging block connections)
3) A dead battery
4) A defective charger
5) Defective charging circuitry on the Neato motherboard
The easiest way to determine the actual cause is to thoroughly research each potential cause on the Neato Robotics forum, found here:
My XV 11 Vacuum keeps on bringing up the message " My vacuum is stuck"
This message generally means that the beater/brush bar is not turning. Try rotating the beater/brush bar manually to see if it can turn freely. If not, you will need to remove the beater/brush bar and ensure that it is clean; that the orange end caps on the brush are free of hair and dirt, and that the bar housing area is free of obstructions.
Note, when I said "beater/brush", it could be either/or, depending on whether you're using the "standard" beater bar, or the upgraded pet brush.

Can you provide a link to a youtube video or something else that will clarify what you mean by "mashing" the carpet?
