Staples ID Armor SH2836ID2836 Shredder - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Wont turn on
If you can lift the cutting head up from the waste bin
It maybe that the shredder cutters are jammed. Unplug from mains, and lift off top and place upside down. Use a small screwdriver and/or long nosed pliers and poke at any compressed paper wrapped around the blades - can take a while.
Give a quick spray to cutters with WD40 Replace - turn on - and run in reverse.
If all else fails, contact the maker
Won't turn off after shredding in automatic mode
This means that sensor located in the middle of feed opening has been jammed in down position. To clear this sensor arm you can try shredding strip of thick cardboard, but running it through in the very centre of the feed opening. Failing that clear the jammed paper using tweezers in addition to that you could soak the blockage between rollers with WD-40 or some lubricant. Give it a good soak, once paper softened and loosened complete clearing jam with tweezers. Your unit will operate like a dream!!
Good luck
What kind of extension cord fits it?
The machine probably uses a plug like the ones used on computers. It is a smaller plug, like a rectangle with two of the corners tapered. A regular extension cord will not work. Take it back, and look for a power cord for a computer. Take a picture of the plug on the machine you are trying to use before you go to the store. The clerk should be able to help you find the right cord.
Why is my ID Armor ID-XC200D making a horrible noise when I shred?
kkrenn641: That "horrible noise" is probably caused by the shredder gears meshing improperly. If you disassemble it again and look carefully at the gears, you will most likely see that some are not mating properly... Usually the motor gear and the first idler gear that meshes with the motor gear. If those two gears seem to be separated a bit, or slightly mis-aligned look carefully at where the motor mounts, and you may see that the plastic "bed" where the motor is mounted has melted from heat from the motor. This is caused by using the shredder too long without letting the motor cool down. You may be able to shim the motor housing to realign the gears, if you have the patience!
I have an ID Armor
Unplug it. Take the top off. "Fish" for stuck papers with an unwound paper clip, preferably a long one! Sometimes, you have to help the leftover stuck pieces move along. Thus, remove paper clip, plug it back in, and try shredding some papers. If that doesn't work, fish some more!
Unless, of course, the paper is too wet to be fished out.
Many days of paper-fishing because I didn't empty out the bin enough!
These shredders are designed to be replaced often (so they can sell you a new one).

SHREDDER STOPS HALF WAY THRU
Check on the underside of the shredder, at the top of thespace where the cuttings box is, there are 2 sensors, at either end of theshredder blades. It sounds like these sensors could be either dirty, ordefective.
Try to clean these with a cotton bud or similar. It may neednew sensors.
Hope this will help you. Good Luck.
Just keeps running but blades
The motor is connected to the shredding rollers with gears or a belt. Sounds like they are broken, unplug then take it apart and check.
How do I oil the machine?
Go to OfficeMax and buy lubrication paper. Run it through. This should solve the problem. Good luck!!
For the ID Armor ID-XC200D, where should I place
You don't use liquid oil. At the office supply stores they carry oil sheets that you insert just like shredding something. They come ion various pkgs. Staples and Office Depot stores carry them. They are universal, no model number needed. I hope this helps.
It doesn't even power up- could I have burned out
Did you remove the top to clean recently? You may not of installed it correctly. Keeping the saftey switch from making contact. It thinks the top is still off and it won't run without the switch making contact. Try resetting the top a couple of times to insure the switch is tripped.
My shredder runs but won't grab the paper that I'm
Look down into the slot to see if the teeth are sharp. They should have little J-hook thingys that look like the teeth in your mouth. If it looks ok, give it some food to chew. If it burps it up, throw it away because its a junker and not worth your time.
Good Luck.
