I should say it has a heating problem. In the uppermost part of rooms, the temperature can get very high.
Check the air vent filters are clean and replace them as required. Make sure the air ways are clear by placing a vacuum cleaner pipe against the air inlets and exhaust outlets to clean them out. That should dislodge any fluff etc.

that is a hard one, (difficult)

• well battery new bad>? or weak or bad luck buys, dollar store batteries? use Alkaline.
• batteries in backwards whole or in part?
• too far you are clicker to projector try 6 feet as a test, 2meters.
• a bad remote or drowned in spilled drinks, happens vast.
• bad luck, have bad clicker (buy a spare?) remote.
• or wrong clicker used, mixed up with others in home or pesky kids did that to dad.
• Read the manual see what clickers it can used, mostly 1.
