The PC is dead even with the battery out , (big'en)
if the screen is dead, no text ever, no beeping no flashing LEDs
then the PC power park may be dead.
buy one, its like 15 bucks dirt cheap, (for sure cheaper than other cures) at ebay... ok?>
also next tests, if screen is not dead, does BIOS work? screens?
the PC has a fan inside it must blow does it?, heard and felt at the exhaust port? clean it yet? of lint, ? if not PC overheats.
this PC has 2 power sources,
the battery
the AC powerpack
it can run on ACpack all by it self for ever.
it is not a charger it is AC pack that does 2 things, not just charge.
so do so. leave out the old shorted bad battery first.
leave it out. and test, so that symptoms can make sense.
i take it now response means, DEAD BLACK SCREEN.

11 steps to a reason for dead.
any 12 year computer is dead now.(best I can tell , manuals rare)
why? easy the short lived parts fail first.
1: the big battery is bad and dead shorted, super bad that remove it.
2: the RTC Coin cell, is bad 5-7 year design life, is bad.
3: HDD bad. we test this first, once PC wakes up.
4; bad power pack. AC< they do fail, replace it. cheap.

the power jack loved to fail on this poorly designed PC
it solders direct (bad) and not Pigtailed as good PC have..
and breaks
so with battery out, big one, put pressure on the jack here,
side to side see if PC wakes up, if yes, BINGO. bad jack.
