Re: Boston digital BA735. Hum with or without input signal.
Hmmm I just got the same problem. They worked fine on my old Dell desktop but when I plugged them in to my son's old Dell PC (maybe 1 year newer than my old one) they all hum like crazy - as you say even if it's just the power plugged in and nothing else. Yes it does have the original power supply. I get no music (but still it hums) from digital out/in but when I switch to analog out/in I hear the music and it still hums, plus the sound is distorted. Wierd.
Boston Acoustics Digital BA735 Speakers with no Analog input.
I use one set of BA735 with two computers. Computer A sends digital out
and Computer B sends analog. BA735 plays both. I listen to music using
digital while the analog from the other computer alerts me to the
incoming messages in Pidgin.
I did have to change bios settings on one computer to use the on-board audio.
To enable digital output in XP, click on the speaker icon > Advanced
> Select Enable SPDIF. You can leave the PC Spk Mute unchecked if
you want the analog output as well. That's all.
I hope you are able to enjoy the rich sound of BA735. It's beautiful.
My ears thank a lot for replacing those desktop speakers. BA735 hardly
takes up any space . Two small speakers are perched on the hutch and
the bass module is somewhere behind the desk, completely invisible.
BA735 no sound but sound card works in analog mode.
this should be pretty easy to diagnose. both speakers have mini jacks right? if so, and you plug one pair of speakers in on say, port "A" and you get sound then if you plug your other speakers in on port "A" and you don't get any sound, the problem is with your speakers.
No sound from my speakers after i pluged the into a dell desktop
Look for speaker icon in task area (right side of task bar). If there is a red x on it it means the speakers are muted or the sound device drivers are not loaded or the sound device is disabled. Click on speaker icon and go to mixer. Check for muting. If it says sound device is not present then open Control Panel by clicking on Start or Windows button in lower left corner, go to Control panel, often abbreviated "CP" then click on system then on device manager and see if Sound, video and game controllers has an audio device listed. If not you'll have to acquire the drivers from the dell driver download site and apply them. If it does and device shows disabled, then click on it and enable it. If there is no sound device then check for an "Other device" entry in device manager. It'll usually have a yellow ! on it. That means a device was identified by plug and play but the system could not find a driver for it. Go to windows update service in CP and run find updates. If Windows finds an upated sound driver, install it. It will install and plug and play and set up device. Otherwise off to www.dell.com with the service tag number of the computer---found on back or top of system. This will lead to the downloads and drivers page for your specific box. Look down list for Sound drivers, download and install them. Usually with dell it downloads as an executable (Rnnnnnn.exe) and all you have to do it click on the file name to run and install it. After download If in Vista or Windows 7 I always right click on file name and chose "Run as administrator" whenever installing like that. That makes sure you have adequate permissions to do the install and have to install correctly. Also it goes without saying to make sure you have plugged the audio in lead to speaker set into the correct sound plug on back plane of system (usually the green one).
