Glad to have been of help. Though I've always considered the most important rule of electronics is that electronics works on smoke. If you let the smoke out of the box, it won't work any more :-)

Obviously, there is a possibility that the on/off switch is faulty. Other than that, the only reason I have seen for the camera not coming on is depleted batteries (or maybe the batteries have been inserted in the wrong direction). If you have a battery tester (a useful device you can find in many stores), you should test your batteries to see if they are good. One bad battery in the camera can render the remaining three batteries useless, even though they may be fine. That's why having a tester is handy to find out the condition of all batteries.

Did you install the Kodak Easy Share software that came with your camera, to the computer? On that CD are all drivers any computer could need, if the operating system itself does not have them. If you don't have the software, try to download it from Kodak. Could be they want you to connect the camera first or you have the make an account with a model number and serial number.

There is no reset button on the Z981. There is a "Reset Camera" command in the Setup menu, as described toward the bottom of this page.
