If you don't remember the password you will need to reset and reconfigure the router. There should be a small button (or pin hole you will need a paper clip to stick in), generally labeled "reset". Hold this in for at least 10 seconds and reconfigure the router.
If you have a windows device that has been connected, you could download SIW (google SIW download) run it, and go to the password section, it will show your wifi password.

If you are talking about a Ethernet network cable (normal network cable)
you can get it at any electronics store, also there might be extras in the box you got when you bought your router (if u still have it). or there are alot of Online stores depending on the region you live in. (Usa, europe aso.)

If you want to turn off dhcp for 2wire then connect the two wire to a computer and use :192.168.1.254 .But if you are doing in for netgear then yes you can use :192.168.0.1 with the user name as admin
password as password

*** it will work only if you have never customized the router admin password . else do a hard reset of router (pin hole in the back - press and hold 20 secs )and the router will be in factory default mode ..

If the wireless light is off that means you are not connected wireless to any wireless device or computer . Once connected wireless to anydevice then the wireless light will be on. Make sure the wireless is enabled on the modem .
1. use a hard wired computer - open internet explorer
2.the address box(url box) type 192.168.1.254 without any http:// or www
3.You will find a network at a glance page - click on home network icon on top
4.right side you will see the wireless status: enabled or disabled . here make sure is been enabled



****** Some time modem ask for enter system key or password . there will be a link says i forget the password - you will find a hint , try your password , if failed to get that also then click another link there "i still cant remember my password " . and you will get the box for enter system key , enter new password and confirm new password . now the system key in the 10 digit key on the white sticker below the bar code on the bottom of 2wire modem and new password is all yours.*******

Have you done a network search with the laptop? Is wireless activated on the laptop? Have you reset router? Plug the actual network cable to configure the laptop first then, once you do that, it should be recognized by the router, some router models requiere you to do this before you can connect to them wirelessly...

Run a 2-strand or 4-strand telephone-wire from your telephone wall-jack to the telephone-port on the router.
Run an 8-strand "straight-through" (not "cross-over") Ethernet cable from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network port on your computer.
Connect the AC power to the router, and turn it on.

WPS stand for Wi-Fi Protected Set-up . im not really familiar with the ipad but my best guess is your wireless router signal strength is what is causing your ipad to drop. No firmware update is going to fix that. i would recommend downloading a wifi analizer from the app store to get a reading on your dbm (signal strength) from your router. the dbm scale will be 100 dbm(best) to -100dbm anything below like -50 dbm and you will start seeing disconnects.
I would either A. Invest in a wireless n standard router or buy a repeater to boost your signal.

If your wep was pre-defined by your ISP, it'll be on a sticker on the router or its packaging.

If not, you set it either by using the disc that comes with your router or by opening the device's webpage (which can be done two ways).

1. Open Windows Explorer, click 'Network', and double click the router, or
2. If you know the router's IP address, type it into your browser's address bar.

The webpage will ask for a password ('admin' by default) and you can configure settings from there.

Router passwords cannot be easily or quickly obtained, your best option is to reset the router and from there create a new key.
To reset:


With the router on, hold down the "reset" button on the back for 10 seconds. This will reset your password and restore factory default settings.

Wireless Router settings:


It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, which you can get from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below:


To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your Internet Browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit. Look under support, downloads, drivers or similar sounding areas.


Things to set:


(Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes. SAVE OFTEN.)

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is typically NOT the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID (descriptive name is easier to find when you need to connect wirelessly).

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).


There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits.

Hi,

WEP key should be created by you. By default, router's wireless network is unsecured meaning there's no password or WEP key setup on it. Please run the disc that came along with the router and on the process of configuring the router setting up a WEP key is part of the process.

I would check your Range extender model because some allow for a wired configuration

the problem is with century link.. There server could be down because of some maintenance.. Wait for a while and it will start working as soon as the server is up..

In the router's setup web interface (if equiped), use the QOS (Quality Of Service) option on the specific protocol and IP of your XBOX... it will concentrate the game traffic to your XBOX prior to any other demands from other computers... (you may result in latency complaints from other users) with grate powers comes grate responsibilities...
