Did you try PASSWORD as your password. If this doesn't work and you have common knowledge of the inside of a computer, remove the CMOS Battery ( common 2032 watch battery) for a few minutes this will reset the the motherboard and the BIOS. but if this is any type of IBM or Lenovo you may have to call the manufacturer to resolve this problem

some one must have put in a boot password to your laptop, follow this: When booting up, enter your BIOS setup (usually by pressing the F2 key at the appropriate time). Locate the BIOS Password section and turn the ON STARTUP password to off. There is no standard setup for BIOS, so I can't give you exact instructions. If this does not work, try: remove cell & start your pc you will here beep...beep...beep... then turn off your pc & restore your cell.Start your pc and password is removed. there is a battery on motherboard,a button cell, you can try removing that and start computer, then put it back, bios settings will be lost. you can also try removing any hardware like ram,if you have two, when system is off, turn on , it will prompt for changes , enter bios and try remove password.

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

Hi there and welcome to Fixya!

I'm guessing you're referring to the Windows desktop background. But if not, please provide additional information.

The Windows desktop background is the image on the desktop that appears behind the shortcuts. To change the background, please follow the steps below:

1. Open the "Display Properties" screen by placing the mouse cursor over a blank area of the desktop. Click the right mouse button to access the context menu and choose "Properties". You can also access the "Display Properties" screen by clicking on Start, select Control Panel, and then Appearances and Themes. Open the "Display" shortcut.

2. Select the "Desktop" tab from the "Display Properties" screen.

3. Pick a picture from the Background list by clicking on it and click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position. Personal pictures in the "My Pictures" folder are listed by name in the Background list.

4. Choose a background picture in another location by clicking on the "Browse" button. You can use any files with the following extensions: .bmp, .dib, .gif, .htm or .jpg. Click on "Center, Tile or Stretch" to select the position.

The Factory Default installs a new copy of Windows Vista™ on the computer. The installation restores the computer back to the factory installation of Windows Vista with all the drivers and programs that originally came with the computer.
Notes:
  • Be sure that you back up your data files before performing this option. All of your personal data files and applications are erased during the recovery process.
  • Due to the large number of virus and Spyware threats on the Internet, it is recommended that you disconnect all Internet connections before performing the recovery. After the recovery, antivirus and firewall software can be installed, and then the Internet connection can be re-enabled to update the antivirus definitions and perform Microsoft® Windows Updates.
  1. Remove all CDs or DVDs from the optical drives.
  2. Turn off the computer, using the normal Windows shut down process.
  3. After the computer is turned off, disconnect all USB devices except the keyboard and mouse. This includes USB devices such as a printer, scanner, removable storage, or camera.
  4. Turn on the computer. After the Gateway BIOS logo appears, press ALT+F10. The easiest method is to hold down the ALT key and repeatedly press the F10 key. Note: There is no prompt to press Alt+F10.

Hello.

Either you have a memory issue or operating system problem.

First, disconnect all cables. Be certain to dispel static electricity by touching metal. Remove the memory cover. Try reseating (removing and reinserting) your memory (try one module at a time to test).

If still a problem, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.

If still a problem, the last choices are Factory Restore and reinstall. Accessing Factory Restore (restores to the factory settings and will wipe out anything that you have installed or saved on your PC), is dependent on your hardware manufacturer. Boot your system and press F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Ctrl+F11 to access Factory Restore. Follow the prompts.

If still not resolved, you'll probably need to reinstall your operating system.

Hope this resolves your problem.

Can you access your BIOS when you turn on the computer?

Somewhere in the BIOS you may have inadvertently changed the netbook to boot from the "Network via PXE" instead of from your local hard drive.

To enter the BIOS, you must restart the PC and enter BIOS setup or BIOS features by pressing Delete or another hardware specific key on BIOS screen startup.

From there, you should encounter a series of menus that you can navigate only with the keyboard... not the mouse. With luck, you will find a boot menu option that you can correct.

Make sure you save your choices on exiting and restart your PC. With a little bit of trial and error, you should be able to coax your netbook to boot from its internal driver.

To change the background on Windows 7 is pretty simple. Firstly, right click on the desktop and click on Personalize.
There are many images here to choose from or you can choose your own image by clicking on the Desktop Background link at the bottom of the Personalization window.
