How to restore
Are you talking about System Restore or System Recovery (to factory settings).System Restore allows you to set your computer back to a point an time when it was running ok by allowing you to select a Restore Point (date and time). System Restore does not delete your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs (unless the program was installed after the restore point you selected). Replace cmos battery
Most laptops require you to take the laptop apart to get to the CMOS
Battery. It will be a silver battery about the of a nickel on the
motherboard. The most common is CR2032. Also sometimes the battery
will be in a vinyl covering and have a cable that attaches to a port on
the motherboard. Which ever type you have you'll need to either remove
the battery or unplug the cable. Then put it back, reassemble the laptop and reboot the laptop.
With the CMOS battery out the computer will lose the date, time and
password.
Keyboard unresponsive only 5's on screen
Sounds like your keyboard has been hijacked by a virus. Try booting into safe mode and see if the keyboard acts the same way. Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn itback on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFEMODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will lookdifferent to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this isnormal. If it is ok in safe mode then run your virus scan.
What is the problem If the time and date will not hold
This means that your BIOS battery is flat/worn out and this is why it changes the date and time each time you boot up.Replace the BIOS battery with a new one then boot up and go into the BIOS and set the correct Date and Time.
