switch off and unplug the unit. open the cover and remove all paper inside. Be careful not to damage any bits inside, Canon is fairly fragile unfortunately. switch pc off, reconnect printer and restart both, it should print hopefully.

Do a file search for Canon, you may see the missing Icon and can "copy to" your Desktop

Hi, the error needs for the print head to be reinstalled. After doing this you must do a print head alignment from the maintenance screen on the printer. Hope this helps. All the best.

If this is a windows computer when you press ctlr and p the printer should be listed in the printer list. If it is not there and if this is a USB connected printer try reseating the cable or a different cable or a different usb port. If you still do not see it go to control panel, add new printer and select the printer from the list. These are the easy steps. It gets worse from there!!

First install the Canon full feature software (MP Navigator EX for Windows) for your OS. If Canon doesn't have a version for your OS, you can only scan by launching software on your computer. See http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp490#DriversAndSoftware for the latest software and drivers. Make sure that the monitor feature runs at boot up (and isn't closed). Next launch the software on your computer and use it to scan something. Under Preferences in the General tab, select the software that should acquire the scan and the folder in which you want the files stored. (In Windows, the ScanGear MP program should launch as well.) Adjust the resolution as needed. Make a note of the settings that work well for that type of scan. Now, if you are using a USB connection to your computer, you need to set the Navigator to respond to the buttons on the all-in-one. This is under Preferences and the Scanner Button Settings tab. You need Auto > Save to PC. If you have the all-in-one connected to your network, you must scan from the computer. (There is no way for the software to monitor button presses across the network.) Is there a ribbon cable that connects to the cartridge carrier? If so, check it for connectivity to the carrier. It may be damaged from flexing or just not making good contact. Also check the area under the paper on the left side where the skipped printing occurs for contamination.

in to the PC or into a hub, hubs are bad, they are lower power.is this desk top, what is it? ok , its 400mA maxso unplug all USB device and for sure CELL chargers.there are only 2 possiblesPC has USB overload, too many devices.or the PC is bad.did you try all PC USB ports? 1 by one, all empty to start?
