My Sony reader prs-600 is frozen. The reset button

Try holding the reset for 5-10 seconds, then flip the power switch quickly, three times. If this doesn't work, check the light next to the power switch. If it is flashing yellow, follow the same process. It might take up to three tries.

Have downloaded some new books

That error message indicates that the book you purchased was through a different eBook vendor and was attached to a different device or software program - in other words, Sony is recognizing it as unauthorized or a "stolen" book. Sometimes you are able to unlock the book using the credit card number used to purchase it, but it will need to be re-downloaded from the source site in order for it to be an option.

Ereader seems frozen says protected

Where did you download the books from? If from your public library, then you need to go to Adobe Digital Editions and register your computer and ereader (with the same id). If you bought the books from the Sony Book Store, then I don't know what the issue is.

Your library should have information on what you need to do.

The next thing to do is to download the software from Sony's site and connect your device! As soon as you've downloaded the software and registered everything on Sony, you will be able to purchase books (either through Sony's ebookstore or other online bookstores that sell applicable files - ficitionwise, ebookwise, google, etc) and then use Sony's Reader Library interface, which is the above mentioned software, to load files to your e-reader.

I have answered this question here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t8195704-cannot_get_books_transfer_from
Here are the steps: I was having the same problem, here is the solution!!! Apparently there were some updates made by Adobe that needed Sony e-readers to re-authorize their accounts. Not convenient, I know, but here's the easiest way to fix it.
  1. In your library, delete the new books that you imported since it stopped working (make sure you have them saved somewhere else or are accessible from the purchase store)
  2. Close out the Reader Library application and disconnect your e-reader.
  3. Re-connect your device via USB port to your computer (no waiting time needed).
  4. Go to the ebook store icon on the left-hand side > then in the ebook store page, select "sign-in"
  5. When you sign-in, you'll see a note indicating that your device is not authorized. Select "Authorize"
  6. Once you've selected this, go back to the Library screen.
  7. Import your files once again and then you should be able to drag and drop them back to your e-reader.

How do i retrieve my

I'm not sure if you're looking for your password to the Sony Ebook Store authorization or your password when you purchase a book. Here are both solutions:
Password for Sony Authorization - You will need to connect your device to your computer via USB and then log-into the Sony Store. If you don't know your password, simply select "forgot password" and it will be sent to you. - Then you can log-in and authorize your device (it will be on your "home" screen when you log-in properly if you need to authorize your account)
Lock Password for Books - This is the credit card number you used when you purchased the ebook

I need to find out if an account has been set up

Hi Susan, You can check (or set-up the account if needed) through these steps:
When your ebook is connected to your computer via USB:
  1. Click the ebook store icon on the left side of the reading library screen
  2. You'll see that the Sony EBook store opens in the screen > Click on "Sign-in"
  3. If you have an account set-up, your info will most likely be stored there (or you can try what you think your log-in information is)
  4. If not, simply select "New user" or "register" and complete the information to authorize your device.
  5. Please note that this is necessary whether you'll only be using .pdf files or the standard .epub files for the Sony E-reader.
To also be able to read .pdf files, you'll need to download and register with the Adobe Edition for Sony E-Reader. Here are the steps: Link: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/ and Launch the application It will then install the Adobe Edition to your computer (it will look similar in icon form as your Sony Library, but it is a separate program). You will then use that interface when loading .pdf files to your e-reader.

Hi, my sony e-reader while turned off or on

Without seeing it exactly, it sounds like it could be one of two issues:
  1. You should try charging and resetting your ereader. Please be sure to save everything, as your system will go back to its original default settings.
  2. If option 1 does not work, it sounds like you may have damaged the internal "ink" - this typically happens by dropping the ereader. If this is the case, unfortunately the damage is permanent by can be fixed by a professional or via Sony.

Had and have same problem, reset may help. This problem is ignored by Sony "early models had charging problems".MaYbe because of this guarantee was prolonged to two years for readers sold from a certain date in 2010 but NOT FOR FIRST READERS THAT SUFFER MOSTLY from this problem. They know this problem exists but since "not mentioned on Sony site"it formally does not and you may send it in for repair at your own (considerable) cost. Besides the slogan 'MY FIRST SONY" now can be added "MY LAST SONY"
