you have a problem with the the Regen gasket. Depending on what you paid for unit plus repairs, you might consider purchasing a better from home depot. I had a sears, but tired of having to repair it. tossed it out and bought unit from hd used about 1/4 of the salt.

Normally the cover is built up with debis,try moving it back and forth and use a little wd40.
