Sometimes a dirty optical lens is the cause of the problem.. You can try cleaning the optical lens by using a commercially available CD OPTICAL LENS CLEANER. If the unit is under warranty just return the unit from the store or in the authorized service center. If not, follow this simple steps try if this solution may fix the problem before you call a local repairman.. (1) unplug the unit from the wall socket. (2) unscrew to remove the protected cover. (3) A drop of water on the cotton buds. Do not use benzene, thinner or other volatile chemicals. Also do not use record spray or antistatic agent. wipe off the dirt on the optical lens. could be a faulty power cable or plug, but could also be fuse/power circuit inside is blow.

Region 1 is US/Canada. This is your only available region. If you put in a DVD from a different region, it will not work.

The power supply board has failed, and is not cost effective for repair.

Well the laser pickup assembly is the problem it is not reading the disc, the only thing I can suggest is take it apart and expose the laser pickup lens, take a Q-Tip and dip it in rubbing alcohol and carefully clean the plastic lens in a circular motion, let it dry for several minutes before testing.

It is a problem with older models only. You need to update the firmware. The latest firmware version is YKD9CO9A . So if I were you I would download YKD9CO9A for that dvd player. Get it from Pioneer Latin America site.
Burn the update on a disc. Load it in the player
After the update is completed, remove the disc from the tray. Hold down the Enter button on the remote until the DVD tray closes. See if that makes it region free.

region coded DVD player is a problem, because you will have to be looking for the region free unlock code. This unlock code cannot be gotten for free and so site that offer to give you the code might not have the correct code and even the code that will be given might not work.

Since its a brand new DVD, I would advice that you return it and choose another DVD that is region free.

Don't bother looking for an unlock code, replace the DVD to a DVD region free player. There are some Pioneer DV-220V-K dvd-player that is region free.
