Shutter Speed Problem with Canon G11?
If you are in M mode or Tv (Time Value mode or in fact Shutter Speed mode) and the Control Wheel does not seem to be changing your Shutter Speed properly:
There was a design change between the G10 and G11 and it is possible for lubricant to be placed onto a contact, rendering the contact dysfunctional.
There is a gap around the circumference of the Control Wheel that allows a very brief single squirt of WD Contact Cleaner.
One squirt, then rotate the wheel in both directions for a few seconds.
Problems with Control Wheel on Canon G11
There have been reports by many Canon G11 owners of malfunctions of the Control Wheel on the back.
This problem often is due to a lubricant used on the G11.
Cleaning the contacts underneath the Control Wheel will resume normal operation of the camera.
I use an electrical contract cleaner I purchase from Amazon. See photo
I don't take the camera apart at all.
I merely use the thin straw-like attachment to the spray can and inject a small amount of Contact Cleaner into the space under the Control Wheel, using the space that is around the circumference of the wheel.
Spray, rotate to distribute, spray, rotate to distribute, etc.
Only a very tiny amount of Contact Cleaner will be necessary.

Formatting the card will delete all the data on it. Buy a new card for use now, then use data recovery software on your computer to try to salvage the contents of the original card.

Possible Solutions.
1. Charge the battery
2. If still not turning on, try using a little rubbing alcohol and wiping the battery terminal(s) on the battery and the battery terminals in the camera. Use a QTip and allow to completely dry before recharging the battery or inserting it into the camera.
2. Replace the battery with new one.
3. On/Off switch may be defective on camera. Charger may be defective. Wire connecting power from charger to wall socket may be improperly connected or loose.

Lens probably does not retract because of debris or a misaligned gear box. The
lens can in about 50% of the cases be repaired without having to replace it. Try to
return to manufacturer first. If you're out of warranty, there are
third party place that fix them such as
camera lens repairs. If you want to do it yourself, there are also free
camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

does it also show up when you display the images on the camera?
if so, its probably a camera issue, if not re-install the camera driver and program - it might solve this problem
good luck
I have a powershot G11. I charged my battery and
The G9 has a design defect with screws that loosen, fall out, and short out the camera. I don't think the G11 has this problem, but it is most likely the fuse on the DC/DC board that has 'blown' causing there to be no power.
I'm not sure how much the part costs, usually about $30-40. We repair the no power problem for the Canon G9 for $85 incl parts, installation and return shipping of the camera.

Lens error restart
Normally just recharging / replacing the camera battery will allow the lens to retract. If not. Switch on the camera and GENTLY apply pressure to the lens at the same time. If not, im afraid it's off to the camera repair shop.
Remove date and time from uploaded photos
Once the date has been stamped onto the picture, it's just as much a part of the photo as anything else in there. Whatever might have been there before under the numbers is gone. You can crop it out, or mask it, or remove it by editing the photo, the same way you might get rid of a garbage can or other unwanted object in the corner.

Hi,
I highly recommend that you instead consider using a card reader to move the photos or videos to your computer. Card reader's do not require software (although Windows 98 and earlier may require drivers), are very inexpensive, are much faster downloading files from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during the download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.Really, it would be better for the camera user if one of these was included with the camera instead of the cable and bundled software. You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache if you convert to using one of these. Also make sure that you get a reader that is clearly stated capable of reading your card, particularly if you use SD-HC, XD, CF, or MS cards.
Thank you!
