Buzzing noise from TV when playing DVD/Photos

Usually this noise is the result of a bad cable. Unplug to see if noise goes away. If so, try different cables.Has solved that problem for me several times over the years.

Sony BDP-BX2 Blu-Ray player now rejects valid discs as "invalid"

Sometimes the latest update IS the problem, not the solution. If possible go back to an earlier version and retry the disks. Many of the answers here about power down and the like are all good and sometimes helpful things to do. They also point to the fact there isn't much a consumer can do to fix or repair malfunctioning DVD/Blu-Ray players and it always comes down to cost. Do you want to repair or replace. You've had your unit, you say, about 3 years? I think this is about end of life. Anyway, try the previous software version and if that works turn automatic update off.

I have a Sony BDP-BX2

Hi,
It seems firmware update process got interrupted and caused SYS ERR display.
Please try to update again by directly connecting it to internet Ethernet cable and if that does not solve the issue then I'm afraid unit will go to Sony for proper treatment as its beyond user level fix.
Thanks.

Before you can register with Netflix, 2 things need to have happened:
1) You need to get the device connected to the internet, I'm going to assume that you've done this part already.

2) You have to register the device with a Sony program called "My essentials" before attempting to register or use Netflix. It's a two part process using the BluRay player AND using the computer:

sing your device remote control, navigate to the Network section of the Xross Media Bar menu (XMB™) menu on your device to get your My Essentials Registration Code.

Using the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
Using the right arrow or left arrow, select Network

Using the up arrow or down arrow, select Activate Enhanced Features.
Press the Select button

to begin the activation.
Once the activation is complete the Registration Code will appear.
Write down the Registration Code.
Using your computer, register your Sony device at the My Essentials web site.
Using your computer, go to https://internet.sony.tv/customer.
If prompted, select your country and language and click Continue. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
Login to the My Essentials site:

(If you have a My Essentials or Sony Style account)
Enter your email address and password and click Go.

(If you do not have a My Essentials or Sony Style account)
Click the "New to My Essentials?" link which will send you to the Sony Style Registration screen.
Enter an email address and password, and click Submit.
If not automatically redirected, click your browser back button to return to the My Essentials site.
Enter your registered email address and password and click Go.
Select your device type, enter your My Essentials Product Registration code, and click Continue.
A confirmation screen will appear and a message will be sent to your email address.
Open this email message and click the embedded link to confirm your registration with the My Essentials web site.
Continue with the section below. (Which is register with Netflix)

Registering with Netflix

Registering with Netflix:
Register your device and select your movies on the Netflix web site

You must either already have or create a Netflix account (free trial offer) and will need to register your device to it.
Using your device remote control, navigate to the Video section of the device menu to get your Netflix Registration Code.

Using the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
Using the right arrow or left arrow , select Video

Using the up arrow or down arrow, select the Netflix channel

Press the Select button

At the prompt, select "Yes" if you are already a Netflix member or "No" if you are not.
Note: If you are not a member, you will also need to select "Yes" at the "Ready to Get Started" prompt to subscribe to Netflix services.
Write down the 4-character Registration Code that appears.

Go to the Netflix web site to register your device with an account.

Using your computer, open a web browser and go to www.netflix.com/Sony to setup a Netflix account.
In the "Start Your Free Trial" section, enter your email address, a password and your Netflix Registration Code (in the Sony Code box), and click Continue.

A message will appear on your TV screen telling you to go to the Netflix web site to add movies to your Instant Queue.
Using your computer, open a web browser and go to www.netflix.com/activate and login into your account.
At the "Activate Your Netflix Device" screen, enter your Netflix Registration Code and click the Activate button

Sony BDP-BX2 Blu Ray player won't read disc. Do i

The latest update version is .008. Yes, you most likely need to do this. I have done two update so far. Ver. .006 and .008. Both times this solved my disc problem. On one of my disc for the newest version, I put the disc in and it could not read it. I was really surprise and put in back in again and it played. I've come to the conclusion that many disc pressing are not very good and some of the Blu-ray players are more finicky about reading that bad pressing. Exchanging the disc for another sometimes works.

I have the latest software version for the BDPBX2

I have Avatar Blu-ray movie and it plays on my BDP-BX2 11.4.006 version. Take it back and get it exchanged. Try new one. May have to go to another store since the same shipments (bulk) that are at your store are ALL the same. I have done this 4 times with 4 different movies and 2 of them worked. I'm getting the .008 update but, I'm starting to think the Blu-ray disc are the problem since I have one that is made in Mexico??? I don't think they are all being made correctly. Too Cheap!
