Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

chances are good that your camera needs to be formatted although they recommend that you do it from your camera and not from your computer

If undamaged, with a fully-charged battery and the correct recording media - probably.

This answer also applies to your other queries, although as it was last produced in 2004, you will be unlikely to be able to obtain a new one.

the following memory types are supported byt your camera
SD (Secure Digital) Memory Card / MultiMediaCard (MMC) / Memory Stick / Memory Stick Pro

Do you have a card reader on your computer? We could format the card on the computer and then see if it works with the camera.

Can you tell me the size of the sdcard?

To format the card on your computer plug it into the reader, open my computer and find the card from there, ones you have found the right one from my computer right click and select format, Try formating the memory card to fat 12 or 16 and then when the format is complete insert it into your camera again.

(turn off the camera, insert the card, turn the camera on)

If the memory card still doesn't work plug it to the computer again and this time format it to fat32.

If this ia new sd card with alot of storage do you have a smaller card that already works on the camera?

OK Here's the problem and the fix ................... After removing the front cover (six screws) and carefully removing it you will find that the front thin metal cover has a plastic inner section that contains the slider mechanism. The plastic bit is attached to the metal cover by two or three strips of double sided adhesive tape and is a real b*st*rd to get apart, but this is what you have to do, so gently but firmly prise them apart, I raised one end with a watchmakers screwdriver and then used a 20 thou feeler to "cut" through the tapes, which can be reused on reassembly.

Once apart it is obvious how the thing works and the problem was seen to be a return spring that had slipped out of position. Using a large needle this was repositioned so that the cam returned to the "off" position. Reassembly is simply a reverse of this procedure.

The malfunction was caused by a few grains of Australian sand (last week only!) jamming the cam causing extra stress on the spring which jumped out of it's position - and here I mean a spring that is at best only three mills long! A magnifying glass helps.

If you can't work to very fine detail better leave it alone .................. All the best

remove the camera battery for a while to reset the system..

if you had a problem on the lens, this would be a hardware problem and you need to bring to authorized center.

let us know more info regarding this problem. an additional input is greatly appreciated...

It was nice to be able to help another. I noticed the post that her 7D would not turn on. It seems just before Konica Minolta stopped there camera business they had a serious problem that was not passed around or corrected. Your expensive 7D camera does not turn off when you take off the lens. When you put another back on while the camera is still on it will fry out a circuit board or sensor. That will cost ya about $300.00 to repair.
I thought I would let her know how to prevent it from happening again. I have done this twice now. My 7D is in repair. I figured out why it does that. Wish they could have told me.. Had to learn the hard way. Also wish they could put a better resister in the camera or have an auto shut off switch. Would make more sense ..
