Maybe you get one from one of your friends, who may have Panasonic camcorder too. Otherwise, it is impossible to install HD Writer AE without the CD.

What are you trying to do with HD Writer AE?

I had success with steps below
1. Do not save any new file to memory card.
2. Connect your card to computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download sd card recovery software, recommended Asoftech Data Recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked) with link below
SD card recovery software
4. Install and open the data recovery program, select your memory drive, and click 'Next' button to start scanning process which will find your files.

Just had this problem on my mac with the same camera. Plug everything up as you had before. Iphoto's should open up but you won't see anything. Close Iphoto's and then open Imovies. Click on file and then import from camera. Then follow the instructions. Hope this works for you.

I have same problem. I have Panasonic HDC-TM20 video camera. It came with HDWriter ae 1.0 software. I have ACER alptop, running XP. Everything was running fine for months, but now I cannot transfer from the video camera to the hard disk on my computer. It attempts to do it, but then it just does nothing for ages. CPU usage shoots up high. When I kill the application, it does die, but process continues so I need to re-boot mt laptop before I can load it again. Is these any one out there who has resolved this issue?

Hi There, few things to follow:
1. Install an update from Panasonic website at www.panasonic.net (This is a pack of 4 files you need to download 1 by 1) 2. Plug your camcorder to the back usb and not in the front port. 3. Disable your Resident Shield on your anti-virus.
Done!

Did you install HD Writer AE under the Administrator account? Some software would require the Admin to run.

If you would like to backup the files from camcorder to PC, just copy and paste between the drives. It shall be straightforward, as the cam could be recognized as a device when connected via USB 2.0. Alternatively, you can try Aunsoft Final Mate to backup the videos.

this is not an issue cause if it works on 2.0 it works on 1.0 too ...the other way around is not always a working solution ..
The issue is that the USB connection is for using it in streaming and such ..and you will have to make a firewire connection for download ..If you installed the driver ..and the camera has a firewire connection use it ..and the hdd will be see on my computer as a drive ..or you will have to use a video manager to import from device ...(you can use the windows movie maker...and import from device feature.)
try it and let me know ..If the camera came with a manager software ...install it too and use it ..
