How do I remove the antenna from a Netgear

Hi,

Please do not try to remove antenna from this router as it does not support detachable antenna. You might cause harm to the hardware and render it useless. It is not possible to remove/attach antennas on this router.

Hope this helps.

Change settings on router

You need to connect the router to your computer/laptop with an Ethernet cable first. You can use any of the 4 coloured sockets at the back of the router. Launch a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or any other) and type the following address in the address bar: http://www.routerlogin.com (if this doesn't work try http://www.routerlogin.net or http://192.168.0.1). In the login window that appears, type in the router's user name and password. If you don't know these try 'admin' and 'password' (both lower case and without the inverted commas). If these don't work check the underside label of the router for login details. Please note that the login details are different to those you use for connecting to the internet. If successful, you will be taken to the Set Up menu on your browser.

Why does my internet keep losing its connection , this has been happening for 2 weeks now and is getting very annoying , now thinking of changing my provider ..

If it is the wi-fi that keeps dropping, it could be due to any number of reasons. Try rebooting the router- unplug it, wait for a minute, power it back on. Extend all the antennas upward, if you haven't done that. Change the location of the router by moving it around the house/flat. Try relocating it upstairs if you are in a multi-storey building (of course your cabling should allow you to do these). If it has been working fine before, may be there are more users now than before competing for the Wi-fi bandwidth in the neighbourhood. You could ask for a newer router to try out from the provider. If it is the internet connection rather than the wi-fi which gives you the problem, the provider has to sort that out.

Not able to browse the sites using Netgear DGN2000 router...

May be good to disable all additional settings. e.g. firewall or Port forwarding. I am assuming that you are able to authenticate (connect with user id + password) as you mentioned youtube works fine. So in that case, there shouldnt be a basic issue but more of a port forwarding or nat. Also check your laptop for any setting changes or personal firewalls. Try pinging local gateway, then DNS then any international website. Based on that you can focus on the problematic area.

So, do you not know the Netgear's password? It probably has a WAP2 password the Compaq would need to know how to handle (and its built-in NIC might not be up to that...not that it can't be swapped out with a newer one if it is not WAP2 or 802.11n savvy; just see your local laptop vendor, should cost $20ish.)

Used to run wired desktop and wireless laptop off

Check to see if the LAN card is enabled and working. If not install the LAN card driver.
If the LAN driver is working then go to Control Panel - Network Connections - right click on the LAN card then click on Properties, then check the TCP/IP settings of the LAN card, Tick Obtain an IP address automatically and tick Obtain an DNS server address automatically.
Then you will be able to connect to the Internet.

DGN2000 router problem. I have 2

I'm not aware of any problem with the DGN2000 that only lets you connect 1 computer (If it was I dont think they would sell many and EVERYBODY would know about it)

Anyway - try swapping the network leads over (remember which port is the "live" one) does the other PC now have internet access and the 1st one not?

if the 2nd pc DOES have internet access the yes you have a suspect router.
if the 1st computer DOESN'T have Internet access you have suspect router.

if the 2nd pc DOESN't have internet access but the 1st pc DOES - then the problem is something on the 2nd pc.

Hope this helps.

I have just gone on

Hi, your security key, is the Key, that was generated in the router when you were setting up the router for first use. First, you put in your user name & password, then you go to security settings and set your WEP/WAP Key, this is the security code that must be used to logon to that network from the WiFi.
Now if you either have an unsecured network, or an unknown WEP/WAP key, what you have to do is, Login to the Router with a browser, and get through to the security settings, and Generate a Key, now when you generate the key, copy/paste this Number to a notepad document, save it somewhere handy, say desktop. Now finish off with the router, save all the settings and reboot the router, now you are ready to logon to your wireless network, now startup the PC, and find the SSID, The name you gave your WiFi connection, now when you select, you will be asked for the WEP/WAP Key, open the notepad document and copy/paste that number you saved into the place provided, there, now you have your security set and be able to logon to your WiFi & router.
It is all also explained in your user manual, i have included a copy below.

When i connect my netgear

Router set up
Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.
