Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.Relieve your body of Static electricity BEFORE reaching inside your computer, and BEFORE taking any new parts out of their anti-static bags, or cartons.Computer on a table, computer Unplugged from power, computer case open;TOUCH an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of the open computer case. This action will relieve your body of Static.IF you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.2) Open the computer case; Click on User Guides in the Gateway link above. In the list click on -8513028 - Gateway Hardware Reference Guide[ This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files. After you click on the file name it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up ](Note* First page is Black, and blank. Second page is blank, and White)Hover your mouse cursor on the bottom/middle of the page. The ghosted out navigation guide will appear. Click on the PDF icon all the way to the Right. (Show Adobe Reader Toolbar)Use the Plus ( + ) icon at the top of the PDF file, to increase the view size.Click on the Minus ( - ) icon to decrease the view size.Use the Down Arrow at the top of the PDF file to go to Page 41.(PDF reader page number. Actual manual page is 35)Loosen the two Thumbscrews, pull back on the formed fingerpull, and remove the left Side Panel. (Pulls back so far, then tilts out to remove)[I find it best to remove all cables beforehand, then put a soft cloth on the table, and lay the computer on it's side. Much easier to access hardware components on the motherboard ]Going back to the main support page, click on Components. In the list, and under the bold black subheading - Motherboards, click on -4006273R - MSI Nvidia MCP73PV MotherboardThe two long White slots shown at the bottom of the motherboard, are PCI expansion slots. An Ethernet card can be plugged in here. (PDF file page. Actual manual page is 48)The metal slot covers at the back of the computer case metal frame, are Expansion Slot Covers.Remove the one covering the slot you need, by removing it's Philips head screw.Note that the slots in the metal frame for the expansion cards, does not line up with the expansion slots on the motherboard. They are one over.Insert the Ethernet Card straight down in the expansion slot, lining up the Locating Notches at the bottom of the Ethernet Card, with the Locating Lugs down in the bottom of the expansion slot. You also have to slide the 'tang' at the bottom of the Ethernet Card's metal bracket, down into a space in-between the outside metal framework of the computer case.Plus line up the bracket's locating hole, (half-moon?), with a short dowel in the metal framework. All of the above will become apparent once you start to install the Ethernet Card. One last procedure is to Physically push down on each Ram Memory module ('Stick'), and also make sure the Locks at each end, are up, and in place.Ram Memory gets bumped real easy. Better to check before going on. (Visual inspection will Not do. You have to physically check)Card plugged in, and fastened down, close the computer case.Reattach all cables if you disconnected them.Plug the computer back into power.Plug the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet Card.WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.For additional questions please post in a Comment.Regards, joecoolvette

Whistle sound. Screen freeze. Power light comes on

The power supply could still be faulty, if you have a power supply tester you can test it, or the cpu or motherboard could be defective too.
take it to your local computer repair shop instead of guessing.
I hope this helped.
Good luck and have a fantastic day.
