Try recalibrating the screen. Nuvi 2xx/2xxW Series: Turn the Nuvi off. Place your finger on the upper left-hand corner of the screen and then slide the on/off power switch to the left and hold until you see the calibration screen. Note: Some 2xxW models require the procedure below for the 7xx. Nuvi 7xx Series: Turn the Nuvi off. Touch the screen anywhere and keep your finger there while moving the on/off switch to left (don't wait for Garmin logo to come up) and then quickly moving the switch the right (lock position). After a short while, you will reach the calibration screen. Go through the entire procedure of pressing each dot as it appears on the screen until it says "Done".

First, make sure that your map is turned on. Go into settings and select the map icon. Then select the map info button. Make sure that a map is listed on this screen. There should be a check mark in a square next to the map listed. If the check mark is missing, touch the square and place a check mark in the square. If the map is missing, you will not be able to enter in any addresses or search for any points of interest. If you don't see a map listed on the map info screen, then the map is missing and you will need to replace it. The map file name is gmapprom.img and should be on the unit, usually in the folder named Garmin on the units flash drive. If you connect a USB cable between the GPS and a PC, look to see if you can find that file.

Typically downloaded maps can simply be installed by placing the downloaded file in a certain directory on your supplementary memory - in this case a micro-SD card. You can either plug your Garmin into your computer with a USB cable or use a SD card slot to do this. You want to place the (unzipped) gmapsupp.img file under e.g. E:\Garmin\ after backing up any data on the storage device you are writing to. If its a new SD card you will need to create that folder. To Re-Calibrate the screen - This should work for your model:

Turn it off.
Hold the upper left corner of the screen while turning it on.
Release the power key when the garmin screen appears.
Continue to press the upper left corner for around 30 seconds until a white screen with "Press Dot" appears.

A firmware update is necessary. The firmware has currupted by anyway now.

plug it in to the computer for a few hours, then hold the power switch to the on position for up to 15 seconds.

if that fails, disconnect it from the power source, then press and hold the lower right corner of the screen, while holding the lower right corner, switch the power to the on position. once you see the message "do you really want to delete your data" select yes, then follow the on screen instructions
