Tomtom ONE 140 -S Car GPS Receiver Questions & Answers
My tomtom one 140 Touch
It may be something stuck between the screen and the edge of the screen. When this happens with a foreign object, the screen cant sense anything because the debris is holding it down. Clean around the edge with a q-tip and window cleaner and maybe a toothpick and try again.
Wont get past startup no maps it says flashing X
If your navigation device shows only the start-up image or you see a flashing cross (X) after you switch it on, it means that the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found. You can solve this problem by resetting your tom tom. Ensure that your battery is charged, by plugging it for about 2 hours, then you press and hold the power on/off button for about 15 seconds, it will restart, once it restarts, it means it has been reset. But if it does the same, then you have to back your files on a computer, then you restore your device, by doing so, it will be able to load your maps and work perfectly fine.
Hope this information helps.
I have a TomTom One N14644. I've had it about 2
If you know where the backup is stored in your computer, right click on it and copy it. plug in the tomtom, then you can close the tomtom program when it autostarts on plugin, then go to my computer and right click and open the tomtom manually like a normal usb device. Find the same map file in the tomtom and right click and paste your copy of your backup. Make sure you copy the file on the tomtom to a folder somewhere first in case there's any kind of incompatability and you have to revert back to how it is now. Hope this helps

When I turn on my TomTom it says no maps avaible.
Since you have just bought it, you are eligible for a new map (within 30 days of purchase). Please update the map as early as possible. Please follow the steps mentioned below:
Tom do not seem to overwrite the existing map file. So before trying to install the map, you need to delete the folder that contains the map. (It is important to read the next part before you delete the map folder).
Once you have connected your TomTom to thecomputer, close the TomTom home window. Double click on my computer. You will see the TomTom hard drive as a drive (like you see the CD drive). Double click on that . Once the folders of the TomTom hard drive opens, look for a folder named USA_Canada_and_Mexico_P. (Please note: this name is for American continent. For others, this name will be different). Right click on it. click properties. Check whether the size of this folder is approximately around 1.3 GB to 1.5 GB. This is just to make sure we have the correct folder. After confirming this is the map folder, copy this folder to your computer for back up purpose. Once you have it safely in your computer, delete this folder from the TomTom hardrive. Go back to TomTom home software. Use the map guarantee to update/Upgrade the new map. You will see this time around the installation completes without a problem.

It sounds like the TomTom isn't able to boot up. This may be due to a software or data issue.

How do I update maps on tom tom one from computer to GPS ?
Usually, you connect your TomTom to your computer, and use the TomTom software (e.g. HOME) to update (e.g. buy, download and install) your map(s).
If your question is about how to copy a (new / another) map on your computer to your TomTom device (i.e. without using the TomTom HOME software), you can simply copy the "map" folder (of the map on your computer) to your TomTom Device (that you've connected to your computer).
You may have other questions like, is there enough memory on your TomTom device for the map ?; is the (new/other) map version compatible for the TomTom (model/version) device that you have ?; is the map "activated" to run on your TomTom device? etc.
Signal not working in mercedes, works in ford pickup
Yes, If your device cannot acquire a signal when mounted on the windscreen, this may be because your car has Heat Reflective Shielding on the glass. This can block GPS signals from reaching your device, to solve this you may need to purchase an additional aerial.
AFTER LINK TO TOMTOM WEB SITE THE DEVICE NO LONGER WORKS? ONLY SHOWS LINK WINDOW.
Look up Tom Tom directly on the Internet and download the latest Tom Tom "Home" program. Make sure the Tom Tom you are using is the one that was originally set up to your account. If you have bought a new Tom Tom, it wont work until you have registered the new device. I had the same problem. I replaced an old Tom Tom with a new one and my old account wouldn't work as it kept saying the devices were not the same and that my email details were already in use for another unit.. I had to email Tom Tom to correct the account details.
