The belt that rotates the drum broke. How do I

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
If you have to check/replace/repair your drum motor, drum seals, belt, rollers, etc.
If replacing drum seals be sure to use a good grade of weather proof cement to hold the seal/s in place.
Note: This method works for most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other electrical connections.
Remove the lint filter and the screws that hold the filter housing.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

Dryer wont stay on after hitting the start button.

Hello. The motor switch may be faulty and may require a new motor. Less likely is the start switch itself but usually this is just a momentary switch which gives power to the motor, if the motor switch is bad it will just go off when you let go of the start button. Dryer motors are usually around $125 plus the labor to fix it, an hour minimum. If the dryer is older I would just replace the dryer as you can get a new simple one for $250 often. Fewer bells and whistles the better. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Dryer wont turn on, the light inside dryer stays

Hi- Sounds like your door switch has shorted out (it controls the light as well). You can get this part from SEARS and they are not too hard to replace, just be SURE the dryer is unplugged before you open it up. You just have to remove the top, depending on the model (you didn't provide the whole model number, should have 3 numbers followed by a period then the rest of the numbers). If you are unsure of fixing it yourself SEARS can send out a Tech. Hope this helps.

Dryer stops while cloths are still damp

Hi

If the dryer is not drying the clothes then you would need to check for the following things-

Electric Dryer---

1. Inspect the fuses and circuit breakers they may have burned out or tripped. Usually, dryer will still tumble but not create heat if a fuse or a circuit breaker is not working.

2. Check for the amp reading at 240 V, it should have reading of 24, 21 and 3 amp (approx.) for 2 lines and neutral respectively.

3. Heating element may have turned or the connection to the element might be loose. Sometimes a shorted circuit element will keep on blowing the fuse or circuit breaker.

4. Motor wiring shorting to ground.

Hope this helps...

Got a used dryer had a 4 prong my house is 3

There is a difference between how a 3 prong and a 4 prong power cord is installed. Please read the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3575913-installing_a_220_vac_appliance_cord

If you have the power cord installed correctly and still do not have power, please check for 220-240 VAC at the wall receptacle. If you require additional assistance, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope this helps you.

sounds like it's going off on a high limit switch. Check and make sure the exhaust flex hose is clear all the way to outside and make sure lint filter is clean. If all is clean, you may have a bad limit switch.

If your handy enough to attempt to replace the control timer yourself..You can start by unplugging the dryer first and removing the screws on the rear of the control panel...You'll then need to slide a flat screw driver under the clips located on the left and the right sides of the panel that attach to the top lid of the dryer... its a little tricky but you'll figure it out... once inside the control panel remove the nob from the timer and remove the wiring clip attached to the timer...remove all the screws holding the timer in place on the panel...A new timer could cost up to $85.00 it depend on the model...Good luck

It could be several things the heating element , thermal cut out, thermal fuse. Most of these parts are very inexpensive and all are easy to replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html that can walk you thru the troubleshooting of your problem. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting will be the same. You can also get diagrams and illustrations of your specific model by entering your model #. Not all models are available. If you need help disassembling your machine there are videos of this also for most styles.
