Canon Rebel XS / Eos 1000D Digital Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f& EF 75-300mm f Lens Questions & Answers
My Canon Rebel XS will not auto focus correctly. It sounds like it is trying to focus, but only flashes and will not focus or take the picture.
Those quick fast flashes usually mean the camera is trying to find contrast to take the photo but it can't. The scene might be to dark and the camera can not set it's focus and there for cannot take a picture. Move the camera slightly from left to right on the subject and see if it can manage to set focus. It's normal for the camera to give out these quick flashes as it is trying to find some sort of contrast in the subject, turning on a room light might help this?
Now when you manually focus, then the camera does not have to use it's built in auto focus sensor and will let you take a photo when you manually focus on the subject.

I CANT FINDMY SOLUTION DISK,
What you'll need to do is go to this link:
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_rebel_xs_18_55is_kit#DriversAndSoftware
Select your computers operating system. A list of files should be displayed. There is no actual driver for that camera, but all the editing programs and utilities will be listed as .exe files. Select only the ones dated 2010 as these are the latest. You may have the choice of saving the files (so that you can make your own disk) or running the files to install. I'd install the files first, then, bookmark the site so you can go back later and download the files to save to disk. Good luck!
My canon rebel XS keeps firing nonstop as soon As
This sure sounds like the shutter is constantly being engaged and the camera is shooting in "continuous shooting mode". I would run it into a camera shop and see if they can identify the problem, and provide an estimate for repair. Before doing that, I would suggest getting hold of Canon Support to see what they think's going on, and then get a second opinion from a camera shop. I can't imagine how the shutter is being triggered unless the plastic tang is broken and keeping the copper-trace switch engaged. The bad thing about switches on most of these cameras, is that the entire camera often has to be disassembled just to get to the switch and replace it, which incurs a bit of labor/time/money. Also, I suppose there could be another trickier hardware/software problem going on in the background. That's why I would see what Canon can offer to do, or if they can suggest some other fix. Here's Canon's support site:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. Under the Setting tab, select [Live View function settings] and press SET. Select [Live View shoot] and press SET. Select [Enable] and press SET. Press the MENU button. Press SET.
I have a Canon 1000d and it appears to take great
Reset the menus to factory setting or default settings. You can also try this: remove the battery and let it sit for at least 24 hours. This should reset all setting to default. Also you can adjust the settings in the menus to darken the pictures slightly.
You may want to call Canon, they have great support. Ask the support if needed for repairs, and of course make sure to ask how much as well.

MY CAMERA (CANON 1000D) TAKES BEAUTIFUL DAYTIME
Focusing in low light can be difficult for the autofocus system and sometimes you will need to use the manual focus, you can select the magnified image and see if that helps
See the online manual - page98 refers to how to magnify the image - using the magnify button - changes between 5X 10X and full screen
To help the camera autofocus there is an assist beam - this takes the form of flashes from flash to help the AF system focus - make sure it is ON - there is a custom function full details on Page 157
C.Fn III: Auto focus/Drive
6 AF-assist beam firing

I have a Canon EOS, 1000D which I purchased in Feb
I did some digging and found that this error is most often a lens communication error. Are you, by chance using a non-Canon lens?
Try the following:
1. Remove the lens and take a picture without any lens on. If you get an ERR 99, then it is a camera issue and you will need to contact Canon for further troubleshooting or repair (ie. not the lens).
2. If you do not get the error with the lens off, try it with a Canon lens or any other lens. If no error, it is a problem with the original lens.
3. If the error occurs on both lenses, clean the lens contacts both on the lens and the camera (refer to your manual).
Hope this helps.
