No heat on gas dryer

Hi

Check if the glow coil comes on. If not then take the back off the dryer, and you will see a part about an inch and a half long, by a half inch wide and it is white in color. That is the thermal fuse. Make sure the dryer is unplugged, and take the 2 wires off the thermal fuse, and put the terminal ends together, and put a little tape on it, so it does not hit metal, and then see if it works. If it does, don't run the dryer that way. The thermal fuse is the only thing stopping that dryer from burning down the house. If it does not work it will either be the igniter or the flame sensor. However there are various reasons as to why a gas dryer wont heat. Please check the bellow link to get a detailed idea related to your issue.which will help you troubleshoot your problem:-

I have a kenmore gas dryer the igniter glows flame

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

I'll start by saying your post indicates it is obviously a Kenmore gas dryer, however if you could post the complete model number I can speak directly about possible remedies instead of generalizing.

At the risk of doing so, you mentioned you do get heat intermittently, and the drum does turn correct ?

If this is a symptom where the unit at first begins to heat but the flame drops out in a matter of seconds or minutes I would be looking at the burner coils. This is what you'll be looking for...

macmarkus_638.jpg
Once you've gain access to the coils you'll need to remove the wire harness and check the continuity.

Here's the tricky part though...many times they will ohm out ok when cool (not operating) yet as soon as there is current passing through the coil it "opens". The wire inside the coils is so fine that often it only takes a small current to "open" the circuit.

Most times it will only be one coil that fails but it is good practice to replace them both, many places used to sell them in a kit so double check with your supplier. I've attached a link here, though it may be different than your model the principles to changing the coils are the same.

As far as what part you may need and how to get it. There are a couple of places I prefer, on-line at "searspartsdirect.com" or "repairclinic.com".

Kit contains both the two wire and three wire solenoids. One solenoid is the primary and one is the safety. Both have to operate for the gas valve to open. Usually, one of them burns out as I said but you should always replace them as a set.

**unplug the appliance and turn off the gas supply before attempting any service...safety first**

The most common for Kenmore is part number 3479 at "repairclinic" as this link should provide you.

http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Gas-Valve-Solenoid-Set/3479
Let me know how you make out or if you require further assistance and I'll do whatever I can. Thank you for your patience while I was away for a while. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Where are the gas solenoids on a Kenmore gas

If your dryer has a bottom kick plate pull it off and the gas solenoids are on the left side can’t miss. If you don’t have the kick plate the front of the dryer must come off. The whole front will come off very easy just lift the top up from the front and the remove two screws on each side hold the front on and lift the front up and off be careful of wire’s to the door.

No heat

i am sending you all the possibilities for your problem, check either of these causes ----and than let me know if it is solved----

Power from the house
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element
Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

If you have done any recent painting or drywall work, oftentimes the dryer will breathe these fumes and it will affect the smell of your clothes. (Just had the same problem) Maybe let the area air out and see if that corrects your problem

Trying to find out how much part #7 on the exploded view of the Kenmore elite electric dryer model 110.2808 is? It is a motor.

110.2808 is an incomplete model number. Motors are typically $140 to $180 USD https://www.easyapplianceparts.ca/PartInfo.aspx?inventory=334304&SourceCode=18 This is is a typical Kenmore model designation and is probably the matching washer to your dryer. Yours is missing 4 numbers. Label in the back, label on the door frame, mentioned on the manual.
