Windows XP is old hat. Windows Vista isn't much better. If you have access to another PC, consider a different operating system such as Linux (it's completely free..). Have a look at https://ubuntu.com/desktop .. all the info is there.

Not sure how u shorted it out installing ram. Theres only 1 way the put it in and there should have been NO power on the board at the time. AND I'd like to know how you think the board is shorted out. What is happening? It's a very rare occurrence and there are other easy fix issues that might make a person think the board is fried. Let me know your answers to these questions so I can help further.

No, Biostar advertises that you should use low voltage memory on this board. My experience that when 1.5 volt memory is installed in a 1.35 volt system, it is not reliable. (Intermittent Crashes.) You would have to increase the memory voltage, this is only possible on full blown gaming motherboards designed for overclocking the memory. A j1900NH2 supports S states, but it does not support memory overclocking.

Without you describing the problem it's impossible to suggest solutions, except purchasing another board. 6 months is a lot of time. I would get rid of this motherboard an bought another brand ( Gigabye, Asus are excellent brand names).

Hi I went to the download drivers page of the BioStar website for your mobo here: N68S3B and the VGA driver for Vista and Windows 7 is the same one 8.15.11.8634 (the "x86" indicates 32-bit, but the driver looks to be the same for both 32 & 64 bit). Your question about the AMD Athlon can be answered quite easily. It is a CPU and does not need any specific driver. You should however download and install the chipset drivers for the mobo. Does it say after boot up I'm guessing u need to install display drivers but if that doesn't work give me more info please
