Most likely a contact problem or broken track on one of the flexi circuits coming off the LCD screen - Repair shop would recommend a new screen. Some people have bodged repairs by putting pressure (layers if tape) on offending flexi circuit - see AVS forums - but this is definitely not recommended and if you are not skilled then working in the back of a TV can be lethal. My advice always buy LCD TVs with a 5 year warranty (Richer Sounds, JLP or similar).

From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Check whether the audio is muted by accidental press at remote control button. Enter its sound menu, and check it. If muted, as you know there will be no audio output. If not muted, check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you wish to make system reset, you have to enter its service mode. Look in the menus for a setting labeled "Hall" etc that will cause background sound to be louder than people talking in the foreground etc--a lot of sets have this and the background being louder usually points to it being on.It can be in audio menu or another sub menu---experiment a bit to find it.

Good question Lynn, LCD panel tabs are very very thin electrical connectors that carry the signals to the panel itself. They are bonded to the panel during the manufacturing process. You cannot permanently fix a tab, but there are long term solutions. It will require you to disassemble the TV set. You will have to remove the LCD panel, and remove the metal rim from the LCD panel to expose the tabs. There are Youtube videos of people with Sony's performing this procedure. But basically people will use various materials and place them on top of the bad tab. They will then put the metal rim back onto the LCD panel assembly. The material on top of the bad tab will apply pressure on the tab keeping the electrical connection in place. I have performed this procedure on a Samsung 46" LCD and it is working so far. I would not recommend attempting this for the average consumer.

Check the warranty period is still valid and if it is within the warranty then get it Sony repaired under warranty.

Sounds like you have a defect LCD panel tab !!! These are also common with Samsung LCD's as well. The only permanent fix is the replace the panel which will cost as much as a new TV in most cases.

You may have to study the technical specifications of both thoroughly for a perfect match.

The board that call the T-CON board it is dying and dead soon.That why it is causing horizontal or vertical lines and distoted pictures.This T-CON board sit in at the bottom in the middle of the tv LCD screen panel and it only job are to decoded pictures pixels before it go onto the tv LCD screen panel.Tries websites Shopjimmmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish T-CON board for the replacement.

Or www.digikey.com, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series. Please post back what you find.

It sounds like a fairly common power supply problem but you should have time left on your warranty if it covered you for one year; if it doesn't, I'm disappointed in Sony. You need to call the service center as they may have information on a series problem that they are dealing with. Do it soon-

you can fix this yourself only if you have at least basic knowledge on electronics,
All you have to do is to open the back cover of the television , on the printed circuits board check for dry soldering , if found resolder , this is the main common fault found on this type of the problem, but if otherwise you have to call for the manufacturer.

You need to make sure your reception is strong enough to receive digital reception otherwise you will only receive analogue reception and dvd playback ability is normally nothing to do with the TV's reception.
Ensure you have strong reception before doing an auto tune to search for the channels. Good luck.

The support files are available on Sony's web site. http://esupport.sony.com/referencebook/en/xbr9/pages/gettingstarted/locatinginputandoutput.html is the correct page for just viewing the rear panel port arrangement. The component video ports and audio (1 and 2) are on the left, the HDMI 1 is towards the right and is ~1/2 way down the panel. The coax input is below and to the left of the rest of the rear inputs.

Additional ports are on the right side (as you look at the back) which may be easier to access with the TV mounted (only USB, VGA, HDMI and composite or S-video from top to bottom)

The T-con board failure or LVDS cable connection loose may cause the problem, you can try to reconnect the LVDS cable first.

Not very common, although it can happen to any LCD panel. If you are within or even slightly outside of the 1 year MFG warranty, you should contact Sony for service. Sony is the only MFG I know of that have paid for parts and/or labor outside of the standard warranty. I hope this was helpful, best wishes.
