I recommend you to replace the battery . If that didn't solve the problem , then try to clean the base where the battery sets with q-tip and alcohol containing liquid . If that also didn't help , then I recommend you to replace the calculator !

I have the exact same problem (just happended recently) with my TI-5045 II after 25 years of good service. My solution? I just bought another model: Sharp EL-1801V at Stapels for about $31.00. To get the old one fixed will probably cost me $25.00-30.00 just to diagnose, plus shipping and parts and labor. And that assumes I can find a shop to do it, or that TI still stocks the part(s) gone bad. Same old problem with all technology.
