How can i fix the message om the TI-83 RAM
It is possible that the backup battery is depleted and cannot keep the RAM refreshed when the calculator is turned off. I suggest you change the backup battery immediately.

When trying to graph a function it would say:
You're probably trying to graph a function that does not involve stat plot features while the calculator is expecting them. You can correct this by turning off the stat plot features. Press "2ND" "STAT PLOT" and then select 4:PlotsOff.

I am trying to get the TI 83 Plus to fit a sine
I was having the same problem. Whenever I hit the graph button after a linear function was entered in Y1 I would get a screen that said "ERR: INVALID DIM 1:Quit"
I messed with a lot of settings but ended up returning settings back to default. The thing that fixed the calculator's ability to graph was UN-highlighting the Plot1, Plot2, and Plot3 words. If they are white on black they are highlighted. If the words are black then they are UN-highlighted.
To UN-highlight Plot1, Plot2, Plot3, do this: move the cursor up to the highlighted Plot1 and hit "enter." Notice the difference? Now do the same to the others and see if it fixes your problem like it fixed mine.
good luck.

Calculator software?
Part A or B will reset the memory.
Part C answers your specific concerns. Please read the whole post before attempting the procedures described here. The first diagnostics you should perform are:
- Make sure batteries are good and inserted correctly,
respecting the polarity diagram: Yes, I myself made this mistake and it
must be ruled out before doing anything else.
- After a change of batteries, the screen contrast can
change: It may become too dark or too light. If it is too dark, you
would not think about a malfunction because you see something on the
scree. BUT it the screen is too light, it is easy to conclude that there
is a malfunction because you do not see what the calculator is doing
after you press a key.
- So, the second measure is to adjust the contrast. Press
[2nd] key and Release it. Then Press and HOLD the UpArrow until screen
is dark enough.
- A third easy measure is to use the TIConnect software
(available on education.ti.com) to retrieve the device Info, and if
calculator is recognized to reinstall or update the OS. You need a TI
USB SilverLink cable.
Here are some more procedures to perform
in the order they are presented. Please
read the post till the end.
A
- Remove one of the AAA batteries.
- Press and hold the [CLEAR] key.
- While holding [CLEAR], reinsert the AAA battery and
then
- turn the calculator on.
- the calculator should display the message "RAM
Cleared".
- Release the [CLEAR] key and then press it one more time
to remove the message "RAM Cleared".
B.
- Remove batteries including the backup battery for
5minutes.
- After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the
batteries and
- turn the calculator on.
- Adjust the contrast if necessary. (see above)
C.
This
step requires the reinstallation of the system. So
to use it you must download the TIConnect 1.6 software from
education.ti.com. You must have the TI USB SilverLink or the TI Black
serial cable ready.
You must be connected to the Internet.
- Remove one of the AAA batteries.
- Press and hold the [DEL] key.
- While holding [DEL], reinsert the AAA battery and then
- turn the calculator on.
- the calculator should display "Waiting...Please
install calculator software now".
- Connect the TI connectivity cable between the computer
and the calculator.
- Click on Start >> Programs >> TI Tools
>> TI Connect >> TI OS Downloader.
- Follow the on-screen directions to reinstall the
calculator's OS.
If the message
"Error! Press any key to
turn unit off. Then turn unit back on."
appears on the graphing calculator, quickly, remove one battery from the
calculator and reinstall it while the transfer is taking place.
You
have several ways to connect the calculator
- Serial Black cable that used to ship with the TI 83
Plus. It connects to a serial port on a computer and to the I/O port on
the calculator. It requires the Graph Link software available on the TI
web site (Downloads, Software and Apps, Connectivity)
- USB Silver Link cable. It connects a USB port on the
computer to the the I/O port on the calculator. It requires the TI
connectivity software, also available on the TI web site.
- An I/O cable to connect two calculators through their
I/O ports.

I can't graph on ,y ti 84...
This should help you setup your calculator to do graphing.
Prepare calculator to graphTurn
StatPlotsOff
to
avoid errors:
Press
[2nd][STATPLOT][4:PlotsOff][ENTER].
Setup
Graph type
- Press [MODE] key.
- In Mode set up screen, make set the angle unit (if you
are drawing trigonometric functions)..
- Use the arrows to move cursor to 3rd line to highlight
degree or radian and press [ENTER]. The important thing is that you be
aware of the unit so that you do not get unexpected results.
- On same screen, verify that Func
is highlighted. If you are drawing PARametric plots, POLar plots or
SEQuence plots, you highlight the relevant item in the list
- If it is not, use arrow to highlight Func
and press
[ENTER] to validate.
- Do not worry if you do not have exactly the same screen
as in the screen picture (We may have different OS Versions)
Entering
the functions to draw (assuming you want to draw y= functions)
- Press [Y=] to enter function editor.
- Type in a function
- Press
[ENTER] at the end of each function.
- Before pressing [GRAPH], make
sure that all the = signs that define the functions to be graphed are
highlighted white on black. If one is not highlighted, use arrow to move
cursor on the sign and press [ENTER].
- In the screen capture 4 functions are slated to be
drawn.
Selecting
the Graph Style (You may ignore this now, because it is unimportant for
just one graph)
- Select the graph style:
The small piece of line to the left of a Y that defines a function is
the style.
- Move cursor on it and press [ENTER] .
- Each [ENTER] (on same
line) selects another style.
- On the next screen you have all the styles available on
the calculator.
- Do not select the bubble on line 6: It is for
animations. It will not leave a trace at the end of the plot.
Drawing
the Graphs
- Press [GRAPH] to see the graphs.
- If one of them is missing, verify that its = is still
highlighted, then
use the [WINDOW] to set the Window dimensions,
- Here are the dimensions of the standard window
ZOOMING
You can also press [ZOOM] to adjust.
The
selection 6:ZStandard sets the
dimensions as on the screen
Titled Window (above).

My ti 83 calculator turns on but nothing shows...
TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen, especially when the batteries are changed, so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

The square root of any number using the TI83+ is
Not the square root of any number. Both machines give the same result for the square root of 4, for example. The differences for other numbers are due to the fact that the two calculators use different processors and carry different numbers of significant digits for internal calculations. The square root of most numbers is an irrational number, with an infinite decimal representation. It has to be cut off somewhere. If you cut it off in two different places, you're going to get two different numbers (unless there happens to be zeroes where you cut...).

T1 83 was working fine
First make sure that the batteries are fresh and that they are inserted with their poles in the proper position. Secondly hit the "2nd" key and hold down up. This is the contrast adjuster which makes the screen images lighter or darker. I have seen many students complain about a broken calculator when it is just not adjusted properly.
Good Luck

My t1 83 does not
If all you have done is to replace the batteries then only 3 causes are possible:
1 - when you removed the batteries a contact was damaged - you will have to open the calculator to check for that.
2 - the batteries aren't the correct type - you put rechargeables instead of alcalines.
3 - the batteries are either faulty or not installed correctly.

How do I get the graphs to be shaded?
In the Y= editor (press the Y= button to get there if you're not already there), select the graph you want to shade. Press left-arrow to get the cursor to the far left (over what looks like a backslash "\"). Press ENTER to cycle through the graph styles. Your choices are Line, Thich, Above, Below, Path, Animate, and Dot.
