above the DEL key, you should have a button S (2 sided arrows) D. press that, and it will give you the decimal value. If you know how to use this calculator, it is a great help in almost any math course.
cheers

as far as the powering down goes, many calculators do that automatically, including the ti-89 series (at least mine does). In regard to the non-functioning keys, I would have to say that the circuit running that particular row of keys was fried in the accident, because the whole block has lost functionality, as opposed to a single key. It may be a prime opportunity to upgrade to a Ti-89 titanium.
hope that helps :)

Hi,
I wonder how to
Hello,
First you must configure your calculator to perform 3D graphics
Press MODE
1.The first line shown is Graph. Unfold the hidden menu list with the right arrow and choose Graph 5:3D
2. Press ENTER to validate.
Now you must define the surface you want to draw
1. Press the [diamond] key then [Y=] to get a list of function names, the first of which is z1
2. Enter the following function (or your own) z1=(x^3*y-y^3*x)/390
( x cubed times y -y cubed times x) divided by 390.
3 Press ENTER.
Graph the function
Press the [diamond] key then [GRAPH]
The graphing screen displays progress in %. When it is finished you will see a weird sombrero.
Hope it helps

Variable or Flash application in
If you are seeing this error after typing an equation in, it most likely means you are trying to use/override a variable that is in use by the system or a program that is currently running. If this is the case, your best bet is to use a different variable.

How can start to do the program in ti-89
im study
You can find the program editing menu under "Apps". Choose "New..." After you enter the name of your program, you will be able to edit it. To run it, go to the home screen (the screen where you enter mathematical equations), hit 'catalog', then 'f4', and choose the program from the list.
As for the coding itself, this site has a solid reference of many concepts and commands that are involved when programming for the TI-89: http://tibasicdev.wikidot.com/68k:home The best way to learn, however, is to play around and figure things out yourself. Programming for the TI-89 is much more powerful than it is for the previous TI calculators. Best of luck!

Hi,
My TI 89 calculator just
TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the diamond key, and press and hold the + key for a couple of seconds to see whether the screen darkens.
If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we can try something else.

I''m glad you got this to work. For anyone else with this problem, in the y = page you can go to f5 and reset the settings, or you can highlight the plot 1 line and press [clear] this will not clear any other settings you may have inputted.

Nderstanding the meanung of error
There are many reasons a calculator will report an error.
Simple calculators usually only report errors for math operations that are not possible such as dividing by zero or if you hit equals when there is no number between a math symbol ( 3 ++ 4 = ERROR)
For more complicated calculators like the TI-89 an error can come up due to such mathematical errors and there is a lot of room for error with more complicated equations. Also there are programs in the calculator that if not done correctly will crash and cause an error.
The instruction booklet should have a list of common errors and how to avoid them. Look at the table of contents or the index to find such a list.
Good Luck hope this helps.

Can i replace the cracked screen on my ti-89
Well, of course you can replace it, but it would probably be more productive to buy a new one due to the time it takes to replace it and it's individual cost, not to mention it wouldn't be easy to find.

Hello, my name is Lucas
There is a backup battery hidden under a cover in the battery compartment. Try removing all the batteries, including that one. Wait a little while, then put them back in. While you're waiting, apparently dust in the usb connector can cause problems. I don't know why, but it can't hurt to clean it out if it's dirty. If that fails, you can plug it into your computer, download the necessary software from the TI website, and reinstall the OS. If all that doesn't work, there might be a hardware problem.

F 'x=x^2+2y^2 f'y=2y(x^2+2y^2) can some one help
If those are the partial derivatives, then the stationary point should be (0,0). Because if you set the partial derivatives to zero and solve for x and y then the only solutions are x=0 and y=0.

The ExpReg command is in the MATH/Statistics/Regression menu. The first two arguments are lists containing the x and y values. An optional third argument is a frequency list. Two additional optional arguments are lists of category codes and a category include list.
Full details are in the manual under ExpReg, page 819 in the version available at
