It seems to me that your cartridge is not sitting correctly. If you are using an OEM ribbon, then it may well just be that you have not correctly inserted the casing. In that case, I suggest you try again.

If you are using a COMPATIBLE ribbon, then it is most likely due to wrong design of the casing. Unfortunately, some compatible ribbons in the marketplace do come with lugs, even though they look very similar to the correct cartridges. look for bent or broken spokes on daisy wheel .turning unit off for 20 seconds and back on should reset the daisy wheel home position. probably the daisy wheel.

Replace the whole carriage unit.

Pitch is the spacing between typed letters.
Pitch should be set (either 10 or 12 ) as indicated on the printwheel. I'm pretty sure that there's no "off" setting. To Set:

For 10 pitch: Press and hold [ALT] while pressing [$/4] key.
For 12 pitch: Press and hold [ALT] while pressing [%/5] key.

To set margins beyond current settings: First release margins.
Backspace or spacebar to the current margin
Press and hold [ALT] while pressing [^/6] key.
[ALT] and [&/7] for left, [ALT] and [*/8] for right

If it always types the same wrong letter you are probably in a language mode or the pitch is in ps. If the letter changes after you turn it off and on the homing pawl spring is bad you need a tech.

Without having the operator manual what I recall on these types of type writers, they have a key next to the space bar called "Features Key."
Most keys are color labeled.
Select the bold feature, it's color origin,
1. Press and hold that features key
2. Touch the bold key, now you are in bold typing mode.
3. When you finish bold typing, press the features key and hold, then touch the bold to turn it off.

You do'nt say what sort of machine it is. If it's Electronic check the print wheel for damage. If that's ok it sounds like a board problem. If it's an IBM 11 or 111 it could be rotation problems.

You may be puting it on wrong the dull side of the tape should face the paper.

The Brother ML100 uses the BRT 1030. There are several supplies available like the lift off tape, the daisy wheel and of course the printing cassette.

Space bar to where the current right margin is. Press "margin release" key once. Space bar to where you want right margin to be. Press "margin right" once. This should work.

A typewritter is not like a computer. It is a mechanical device, that works by pressing an embossed letter in the daisy wheel through a inked tape into the paper.
The only way you can change either the font type or the font size is by buying and replacing the daisy wheel by another one with different font type/size letters.

Look for page 16 (last page) of the manual for a list of cassette daisy wheels.

Hit the FN left. If it's already at the maximum, move the paper to the right.

I need to reset the left and right margins, i had read to press "code" and "mar rel keys" and backspace to where i want it, same thing for right but it didn't work. Do you have any other suggestions?
